Fear: Good or Bad?

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 16, 2010

Over the last few posts we’ve talked about being co-creators; needing to stay in alignment with universal laws and spiritual principles in order to create/manifest/receive our highest good. The next big issue that comes up from the fundamentalist viewpoint is whether we need to fear God.

I had this discussion about fear with Lisa Jimenez, who I mentioned in a recent post.  Lisa has even authored a book titled, “Conquer Fear.”  She told me that she loved the expression “God fearing man” and felt that fear of God was a sign of virtue.  She even said, “That’s the true fear.”

When I questioned why it would be necessary for God to scare us or need us to fear him (or her), she backtracked and said that she didn’t mean fear; she meant reverence.  That seemed like quite a contradiction to me.

She said when you feared God, you really just had reverence for him.  “That’s not my definition of fear,” I told her.

“Look it up,” she said.  So I did.

My dictionary says fear is alarm or agitation caused by danger.  That certainly agrees with my definition of fear.  And also my perception how most religions view God.  But let’s look at definition two...

“Extreme reverence or awe.”  Well that’s certainly what Lisa is maintaining.  So what do you think?

Are we supposed to fear God?  Does it serve us to do so?  Is it alarm of danger fear, or reverence fear?    Is “alarm” fear good in certain circumstances?  And if so, when does fear move from good to bad?

I ask all this not because I want to compare your religious beliefs, as interesting as that may be.  What I’m really looking for here is your fear about fear itself.  How fear may be holding you back from things.  And discover what subconscious programming you may have on fear.

Please give it some real thought and check in below.

  1. Randy, I'm with you on this one. Fear is a danger alarm.

And since (like you) I view myself as a co-creator, I do not feel fear or reverance for a deity. I am however awestruck daily at the miracle of life, the potential that exists, and the limited abundance that is available to us all. So is that reverance - perhaps. But it does not scare me...it thrills me.

Fear will always be present whenever one steps forward into growth. But it's not a bad thing (assuming there is no sabre tooth tiger looming). Fear is simply a signal from the subconscious that "something is up"...that a comfort zone is being disturbed. The subconconsious is programmed to protect the status quo, and any disruption will surface the fear experience.

What I know for sure is that if fear is NOT present, we aren't growing. So when I feel it, I give myself a pat on the back, because I know I am stepping into growth. And that is the universal purpose of life. To grow, to expand.

Thanks for stirring the juices Randy..as always.

  2. I agree with Deborah here. I too am awestruck and thrilled by the daily miracles all around me - but while I acknowledge a Greater Power, I don't fear it.
    Why should I?
If this Greater Power has any personal interest in me - which I seriously doubt - then I would think it would be along the lines of a loving parent. Something to respect and honour the rules laid down, but not to fear.
And those twinges when we head into the unknown - I would call them growing pains too.
Once again, Randy, you provide much food for thought. It's thanks to your questions and prodding that I have examined my own codes/beliefs/rules and for this I am very grateful.
    Bliss and blessings,
    The Goddess known as Jacqui

  3. Are we supposed to fear God? I don't think we're supposed to do or fear anything. I think this idea is great for religions and government because fearful people are more easily to control and manipulate, which obviously means that those people are not really thinking for themselves. I don't think that fear is good in any circumstance, period.

  4. Totally agree...except I am certain that Deborah meant UNlimited abundance as opposed to limited. Fear is a good thing...that innate sens that we must be "aware" of something. We can embrace the awareness and grow form the experience, or shrink from it and remain stagnant.

Keep us thinking randy. I love it!

  5. My thought is.. I really dont fear God he is our Father and we are his children, the only thing to fear is that which we deny ourselves when we dont keep his commandments. He wants to bless us and he will always Love us but we move away from him when we dont follow his teachings..

  6. you can not have respect for someone or something if you fear it. I walk with the creator. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry and sometimes we fight and cuss. We have a understanding, a respect for each other. I believe that the creator is not a entity that would ever abuse us, so therefore would never consider himself/herself to be better than us and taunt superiority. If we were made in the creator's image would we not also have his personalilty, his values, etc, unless we lose them ourselves. The creator made us because he wanted friends, not slaves.

  7. I think I'm missing something. The definition of Reverence is to hold something in extreme honor or esteem (not a quote). I'm not sure what that has to do with fear.

We openly recognize and criticize societies and communities that rule by fear and intimidation, yet so many people don't think twice about living under self-imposed fear, or religious fear for that matter.

Can fear be a positive driving factor? Yes, of course, in certain circumstances and in the right hands--and with practice and awareness. But so many times it ties back to an older theme of victimization. The Circle Of Strife!

  8. Hi Randy,

Wow what a great post today. We recently had this discussion with some friends of mine at the church I go to Unity of Delray Beach, FL.
We have always taken that to mean as the evangelicals do that we must FEAR God and not in a good way.

I have learned that many of the words that have come through the ages have been mis understood, so perhaps metaphysically it makes sense that fear is reverence. One example of this is Hebrews 11:1 where Now, Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. I was told in Aramaic that "hoped" means conviction. It is known, not today where we are hoping or wishing something will happen.

I think the fears that I have are all to do with me being afraid of what others will think. It is also a reflection of do I think I am good enough.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  9. I agree with what Lisa Jimenez said. I have always thought the expression "fear of God" really means "reverence" for the infinite intelligence called God.
There are false Gods and a True God. We are aligned with the first ones through fear and we are aligned with our higher Self through reverence which is another word for LOVE.
According to The Bible God is love and love casts out all fear. When we are in alignment with our higher good we always feel good.

  10. Fear is actually in several Bible verses. I believe that depending on the context, fear can have different meanings.

    Reverence:

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth--to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water." (Revelation14:6-7 )

alarm or agitation caused by danger:

"and for fear of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead men." (Matthew 28:4)

So maybe we can choose how we fear God.

"Alarm" fear could be good when it is a fight or flight response and could save lives. "Alarm" fear could also be bad in a prolonged stress response.

  11. JFK was right when he had said "The only thing to fear is fear itself."
Sounds as though this person has been brainwashed to believe God is Santa Claus, and only the good folk will be given utopia/gift's on earth.
Funny thing is that so many bad people are getting away with murder, and many more innocent are dying.
If this person loves a "God Fearing Man", she then may want to ask him why it is exactly he fears this idea, rather than fearing the Devil idea, or even; any idea that holds no bearing on reality in the present moment besides what someone else has told them through text, or story telling (fear mongering).
I would suggest that she face her fear, and question anyone, or anything that say's there is a heaven, or hell, because I have yet to meet a theologian who can explain what happens in either place with certainty.
Fear not what you do not know, and try to find the answers yourself, because if someone claims to be certain about anything; they are more than likely trying to trick you.

  12. To become a more awake being I had to switch from God as being my Father to God as being my partner. We co-create.

  13. Good Day Randy,

Growing up in home where mother was so religious that I believed for many years that I was doomed because you were taught ..through the church..the church ran by man the "afraid, strick you down..can see everything you do wrong"..God. I just did not think to challenge that definition ..let alone look for another interpretation of the definition..Not too long ago I was challenged from the marketplace busienss meeting to look up the definition of "fear"..all of it..I now believe the definition for me is reverance.. Thanks for everything.

  14. I was raised Southern Baptist - with a healthy dose of fear for a God who would strike me down for the least little thing. When I left home for college - I began a magical journey into religions and beliefs from around the world. Today, I have my own faith, a blend of Abraham, Buddhism, Taoism, Native American and other beliefs.

The one belief I refuse to accept from any 'religion' is the idea that we should fear God. I truly believe that 'fear' of God was contrived by man, to control the followers of the various religions we created (driven by the need of some to have their own way and point to others as false.)

Fear is a great way to control the masses. Fear will bind a group together against a common enemy, lead that same group to control their natural behaviors rather than risk the Fear of God. We wage religious wars (and sometimes not so religious) in the name of Fear of God - or For our Gods.

That's a lot of power to derive from a negative emotion.

In my own personal life - I know that fear has no place - fear of God, man or natural events. Fear is a negative emotion - a sign that I'm creating negatively in my life by focusing on a negative something.

I don't fear my Higher Power - I embrace it with love and eager anticipation of the joyful abundance that is coming to me - as we speak. If I do feel fear - I track it to its source and realign my thinking to open my heart and expect abundance.

I personally feel sorry for those who fear - whether the fear is of a God, another man, nature or tomorrow.

Fear counters our natural ability to create our lives. Somehow I don't think that's what any loving 'God' would have in mind as a way to honor them.

Great post as always Randy. Thanks for getting us thinking - and feeling!

  15. If you fear God (Universe) you're in for a rough life. Which a lot of humans are. Wars are fought on fear. In fact they are all fought over God. Fear is the opposite of Love & Faith. They're are many kinds of fears but to me the fear of dying is what most people are afraid of. For me this is what Faith is. It's knowing that All Is Well and all I have to do is be grateful for everything in my life. I mean ALL. The good the bad and the ugly. I'm in charge of it all. What I think, I become, I get. It leaves all the blaming and judging out. To me that's peace.

Thank you for allowing to share my opinion.

  16. The primary idea of reverence, not being scared, is how I interpret the "fear of the Lord". It is said to be the beginning of all wisdom. I find this concept to a solid reminder that to be wise, I am to honor and reverence God first and then mentors.

At times, a sense of fear in the context of scared is appropriate. It causes us to check in with ourselves and the experience we are having. It is entirely appropriate to have fear in situations that are potentially fatal, or even less severe but causing us to check if our experience is congruent with our faith, purpose, and goals.

  17. I am trying to translate the questions.

    "your fear about fear itself:
1.) Your “Extreme reverence or awe” about “Extreme reverence or awe” itself
2.) Your “Extreme reverence or awe” about "alarm or agitation caused by danger"itself
3.) Your "alarm or agitation caused by danger"about "alarm or agitation caused by danger" itself
4.) Your "alarm or agitation caused by danger" about “Extreme reverence or awe” itself

How fear may be holding you back from things:
1.) How “Extreme reverence or awe” may be holding you back from things
2.) How "alarm or agitation caused by danger" may be holding you back from things

discover what subconscious programming you may have on fear.
1.) discover what subconscious programming you may have on “Extreme reverence or awe”
2.) discover what subconscious programming you may have on "alarm or agitation caused by danger".

That is a lot to think about.

  18. Randy, this link sums up most of what you have been teaching.

You are definitely a 'Class Act' by sharing your work globally and helping people become financially free and emotionally healthy.
Your words have proven to be so time after time. You are living proof of your truth.

I found this piece on YOUTU. of Will Smith that can offer some insight, as well.
WOW!!! Please check this video-- Will's Wisdom http://youtu.be/OLN2k0b3g70

  19. Randy.....I have a lot of fears - some of them are fear of being betrayed, some of them are fear of failure, etc etc etc but fear of God is definately not one of them - First of all I do not belive in God, second if the Bible is true it's my opinion that God in that case is a hypoctritical, self centred, arogant bastard who's just looking for attention to edify his self awareness of not being flawless. But an entity as cruel as the God described in the Bible is something I refuse to belive excist, but if he/she/it should excist I would not fear him I would feel sorry for him/her/it, and cry on behalf of mankind.

I do not think one needs to fear something that has not proven it's excistence and I do not think that fear for something as inhumane as the God described in the Bible is in it's right place. We should look out for ourselfs in stead.

Another point in this debate is that nothing positive has ever come out of religion. In the old days the christians slaugthered the muslims in Gods name, today the muslims slaughter christians in Gods name and the people put in charge of the catholic herds rape young boys as on an assembly line because the church limits their ability to live out their sexual needs, Johovas Wittness tells their herd to die on the operation table because its not pure to recive modern medical treatment. What good has that ever brought us? And they say they speak on behalf of this so called God?

We should not fear God, rather fight him (or the idea of him) and clear our minds of the limits and guilts that relgion places on us.

Another thing - I started this coment by saying, I have lots of fears - and I belive that fears are the one thing besides religion that limits us the most, hence I work on my fears every day. It might sound pathetic but one of the biggest truths out there acctually comes from a blockbuster movie, and the quote goes like this: "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering" - it's so true, and fear of God is no diffrent!

  20. I apologize if I confused people with about this topic. I was doing some critical thinking and having fun. Just part of who I am.

I have been doing some serious critical thinking (me again) to discover what negative subconscious programming I have. For example, having a successful career (achiever in me) but having to work a lot of hours was the result of bad programming. I was actually a good programmer but received bad programming when I was a child. ( me again). We continue to receive good & bad programming daily so it is something I need to work on daily.(and that is also me). l will stop saying "Me again" for the rest of this post but it is me.

I wasn't happy working all the hours because it wasn't congruent with who I am and my belief that I can be happy, healthy and wealthy. Working a lot of hours in a high stress job affected my health. I knew my health issues were a result of the job, but I didn't look back at the core belief on why I had a job like that. So now I am replacing that belief so I don't repeat the mistake and so that I can move forward toward happiness & prosperity.

Because I believed there was a better way, I looked for and found a better way. A Plan "B" that would give be more congruent with my belief that I can be happy, healthy and wealthy. But then a failure happened because of another belief I had from childhood. I looked at the reasons for the failure but I needed to question my beliefs again. I needed to replace that belief also so that I don't repeat the mistake again and so that I can continue towards happiness & prosperity.

Questioning my core beliefs wasn't easy, because it brought up fears from the past. So to question my core beliefs I couldn't fear fear.

My state of mind affects my prosperity (happiness, health & wealth). Questioning my core beliefs brought back the fears and feelings but that was the only way I could replace the beliefs. It was not fun but the only way I could move toward prosperity.

By questioning my beliefs I am working as a co-creator with God in order to create my highest good.

  21. If there was a God, it is researched (in gem theory) that his best strategy is: not to show that you are there. So what is the purpose of believing in a God? I apologize for hurting people, but that is life.

  22. I am absolutely excited that you raised up this issue.

According to Kabbalah and Judaism in general, fear is actually an external (false) branch of its internal (true) part - The Awe (of G-d).

Fear (Awe) of G-d, in this terms considered to be a positive dimension, which is actually connecting us with Him and unversal laws in general (what is called to be spiritual, as u mention in begining. According to Kabbalah, awe is required part before we can proceed or be ready to the next stage - Love of G-d (which is our basing and very true nature - becoming loving like He is).

Look for another definition of awe at my blog, which is been given by my Rabbi (teacher) Adam Sinai in Israel:
    http://www.mymentorsblog.info/2009/04/what-is-awe.html

    Thanks for posting,

p.s. "awesome" - what route does this word come from?

  23. Thanks for that YouTube link, Leslie. That was great.

Randy, I am tremendously grateful to you for being the person you are. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us and for allowing us to do the same. You're a good man.

  24. First and foremost, I'd like to make it clear that I do not speak for other religion. But from what I understand, the Hebrew word, "fear" of God in the Bible means more of a reverence and respect than fear. Due to the limited expression of the English language, the translator had no choice but to use the word fear.

In the Chinese Bible, the Hebrew word "fear" is made up two characters: (敬)"Respect/Reverence" and (畏)"Fear", which means fear as a result of deep respect/reverence. I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but I'd like to call such fear "a healthy fear".

Case in point. Have you ever come face to face with a person who simply exudes so much awe and royalty that you can't help but have a deep sense of respect; and consequently you have some "fear" for that person? It also applies to some grand and majestic buildings. It's so huge and awesome that you somehow feel that you have to thread carefully in it.

As for Randy's "fear about fear itself", I totally agree with him that such fear will definitely limit your potential. There's no fear in love and perfect love casts out fear. Fear in and of itself is a counter-productive feeling. And if it's a feeling, we can choose it. And if we can choose our feeling, we can choose not to feel fear. I know it's easier said than done. But it's still a choice we have to make. Daily.

Incidentally, the words, "Fear not" appear 63 times as compared to "Fear God" which only appear 10 times in the KJV Bible. I'm not a theologian but I guess you get the idea. 🙂

  25. before i had the same feeling that liza has it now. but i have t realized that God is love and im motivated to live and obey God by love not by fear....

    gene

  26. Dear Friends,

I think feeling fear to God is a must, because every humanbeing will die oneday and will meet God to hold responsible for everything we have done as long as we live. So, fear to God means we have to obey God's rules.

But, fear to try a new opportunity, fear to fail, and fear to successs are not good.

    Is it right Randy?

  27. Hi Rg and All,

These two fears come from different places in the brain. The fear where you are stuck that comes from a survival instinct is from the reptilian brain (the back of the brain). This is the flight, fight, or freeze response.

The fear of God/ revenence occurs in the right temporal lobe. This is the area of awe - that lights up when people have near death experiences. It awakens the amazing brilliance of God, the Universe and All. Neuroscientists from Univesity of Ca in Sand Deigo called this right temporal lobe that area that may be "hard wired to hear the vocie of heaven." They call the area "the God Molecule" because it's attuned to mystical experiences. Melvin Morse a doctor who studies new death experiences calls it the "God Spot" = "an area of untapped and unlimited potential where God lives in each of us."

Both of these fears exist - and both are real, valid, and useful at times, and other times awful, limiting and sabotaging.

The reptilian brain of agonising fears can stop us from achieving our Greatness, while the God Spot opens us to amazing psychic powers, and awareness - tho it gives us remarkable connection, intimacy, and raw connection with all which is one of the reasons it can be feared. TO live in that state of complete openness and depth of reverence is intense and transparent and breath taking.

To me - you are both right, and science would agree! 🙂

  28. It is amazing how all of this was predicted to occur during the End Times. Fascinating..... Opinion vs. Fact, so what is the Truth then? I suppose one day we will all find out.

To Fear God is to acknowledge His presence being with you at all times. If there was a police officer following you 24 hours a day, would you not Fear breaking the law, for if you did, you would surely be caught? And, is there not a penalty for breaking the law? If there were no penalty, why fear the police officer in the first place?

An illustration would be when you are speeding down the highway, then you see a police officer on the side of the road. What is the natural reaction? You hit the brakes, swallow your heart, and after passing the police officer, you stare several times in the rear view mirror hoping he does not come and give you a ticket. Is that not fear for you knew you were doing wrong?

The Bible teaches against sin. We will all have a day of Judgement.

Assume for a moment that there is a Hell and a Heaven. Which one would you Fear? If you knew that there were one person/being, call it what you want, that had the ability to send you to either place, would you not Fear that person who had your eternal fate in His hands and can send you to Hell for doing the wrong things. For not abiding by the Commandments of God?

If you break the law, regardless as to what law, there is a consequence. Parents love their children, yet when a child does wrong, breaks a rule set by his parents, why do they lie? Does the child lie because he is happy that he broke the rule and is going to face punishment for doing so? No, he lies, for he Fears what is going to happen for his disobedience.

It is evident that what is spoke about in the Bible is taking place.

  29. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."

  30. The issue, in my humble opinion, is people keep wanting to give God human qualities.

We keep equating God to US, and how we, as humans would respond, using our human emotions and judgements.

Well, that just doesn't work, and that is where the failure of religion comes in.

Once we start assigning emotions, expectations, and reactions to God, we stop seeing this Prime Creator as just that, and start seeing it as the Old man in the sky condemning the human race for not following his laws.

For me, in order to enjoy the fullness of our Prime Creator, I have to stop thinking about it with my head, and start feeling about it with my heart. Big differences.

    Religion is about the head
    Spirituality is about the heart

When I think of God with my head, all the negative, patriarchal religious fear crap is pounding at my door, demanding things from me. I feel alone, and powerless the vitcim of a God that demands.

When I feel God with my heart, pure love, abundance, joy, and bliss lovingly wraps itself around me and i feel connected with All That Is. And it is then that I can recognize my full potential as co-creator. And it is from there, that I feel magnificent, and able.

    ~Jhanna

  31. Fear from a fundamentalist viewpoint.
These words opens my mind that my intire life has been closed, and that is quite a statement as I am now 48 years of age.
The dominant mindset of my childhood was that of my father. He was a scientist in the medical sciences. You could well argue that hé is a fundamentalist rational thinker. Everything down to the tiniest cells funktion would be explained from that paradigm. He was so radical in hes thinking that he had everyone in the Church listening for two hours the day my mother and he was maried while he and the priest was debating fundamental issues, I am told, to a great sorrow of my Grandmother on my mothers side. Proffessional his ideas within his field, when he retired, was accepted as knew knowledge. He talks about it as 40 years of fight with the most intelligent men around the globe to prove his ideas to be true - and he won.
My mother also came to play on the international scene but in the humanistic fields working with 3'd World projects. Also from her I've been brought with a rational aproach. I newer once heard an
argument from her that had the "in the name of God" in it.
Now that have connected to your thoughts Randy over the last 7-8 years since I first met you on a Go Diamond weekend that you lead in Copenhagen, and later when I attended your Multi Millionaire Mindset retreat in Fort Lauderdale, on the BreakthroughU beginners level until it compleated, and following the debate again over the last couple of months on your blog, I am ready to question profoundly this fundamentalist rational kind of thinking that I am brought up with.
See I have it that it's this belief in that man can control the World that i causing the troubles on a existential level humanity is facing today. This fundamentalist paradigm is out of tune with the Natural World.
I just Love it, when I hear the debate you are having with Liza Jimenes. Thinking and operating on your level makes life fun.
The fear i fear is the fear og letting loose of this rational mind, daring faith.

    Pierre Leyssac, Wonderful Copenhagen

  32. I am still a little unsure about jumping into this pool. I'm sure I'll get interesting responses no matter what I say.

To me, fear of God is a healthy reverence. God is to be respected and disrespect can bring fearful consequences. I think this is generally Old Testament wrath that can be fearful.

Now God does have a righteous anger but in the New Testament God is described as loving us all and wanting to be our friend. Friends of God through the simple belief in Jesus as God and Savior have no reason to fear. According to the New Testament, those who believe in Jesus will be passed from judgment, but those who do not believe have been judged already.

This does make it a little difficult to be Pluralistic as a Christian, because if you believe in what the historical New Testament books say, you cannot believe in any other gods or religions. That does not mean that we hate our fellow humans because they believe different things, it simply means we do not believe the same thing.

    Ok, there you go.

  33. Yes, Thanks for that YouTube link, Leslie.

Funny about the treadmill. I stay on the treadmill longer than the people that were there before me. Sometimes I do a 1 hour spin class before I do treadmill, then I do 3 miles on the treadmill & hope everyone else finishes before me.

Just thinking that maybe this is similar to people in the corporate rat race. People think they need to stay in the race longer than everyone else because that is how they think they will win the rat race.

  34. I think we should fear God in the way Lisa describes, with extreme reverence or awe. I would also add the word respect, we should fear him not in a "scary" way but in a respectful way - knowing he is the almighty.

I think you're right Randy that many religions take this fear factor to a whole different level and meaning. And I do not think it was meant to be that way.

    ~ Dorene Pierceall

  35. The fear I fear is the fear of letting loose of this rational mind, daring faith.
I am not realy answering the question. What is your fear about fear? Right now I am fearing my fearing my fear of letting lose of my rational mind. My fear has me, I am not having my fear. My fear has me be safe and in control. On one hand my fear has had me steer safe through the challenges I've faced growing up maturing becoming independent. On the other hand I fear that my fear of letting loose if not given up on in the end will have me die not having lived just survived.
The subconscious programming I have about fear, or have had as now I am bringing it to the conscious mind, is that if I did let loose I would be victimised by others taking control over me. It's very lonely in here. The good thing being there is a consciosness seing, it is not who I am. In other words the rational mind being in control is just the programming I've received.

    Pierre Leyssac, Wonderful Copenhagen

  36. There is something we point to called fear. Some fear failure while others rejoice and embrace it. Others fear success and condemn those with it insuring they never get a taste. There are rational fears based on experience and irrational fears based often on the same experience.

If you had never seen a red hot burner on an electric stove it could be something you would want to touch. Once. Depending on what you decided the event meant you would likely be afraid, fearful and respectful of the red hot burner in the future. You might also develop another fear of anything unknown or unexplored for fear of discovering another red hot burner.

How each of us relates to the 'experience' we call fear will determine our actions and our fate. If you have ever spent a day jumping out of a hay loft into a hay wagon full of hay and then on your last jump of the day, while everyone is screaming your name in what you think is encouragement, leap into an abyss where there is no wagon just cold hard ground the brief moment of fear before you hit the ground and roll disappears from the shock your entire body experiences upon impact. Some might say you become one that forever looks before they leap after that. I suspect that occurs in those who saw it happen. If it happened to you you'd know you survived and the 'rush' of the experience could become a 'drug' of choice you forever are attempting to revisit or recreate.

Fear of God for those poor souls stuck in the stands of life, afraid to leap into the unknown, always looking and never leaping live the saddest existence I know. Those on the court, engaged in the battles of their life, terrified and exhilarated from their personal experience with God know the swirl of terror mixed with joy surrounds a nugget of wonder and awe no one in the stands is remotely aware of.

For those truly afraid, stuck in motionless nattering, you do not even know God, just your own fear and a blind sadness covered by nice and sprinkles of well meaning manners. The worst people are good people because if you have no space for being bad you have no real space for being good.

  37. When Lisa Jimenez said to look it up - she probably meant in the bible.

Look up Proverbs 1:7 - it's in there Randy...

I love your thirst for the truth! keep knocking Randy and you'll find what you're looking for!!!! I so much appreciate you!

  38. Hey RG, got led back into this post from your latest one. This is a fascinating topic, and truly when it comes to 'having the fear of God' bit is one of the concepts I never understood, nor a feeling I ever experienced. I seriously just don't get it, and I try to understand as some very important people in my life are devout Christians. For example, I feel reverence & respect towards you as a mentor and coach, but I definitely don't fear you. The only thing I have read so far that has made some sense to me wrt fear is when Fear is defined as an Absence of Love. And therefore, wouldn't that mean where there is fear there's no God as God is the epitome expression of love? So having the fear of god makes no sense to me - conceptually or experientially. xoxo - J

  39. Randy,

I live with a man who fears God and all he stands for. I on the other hand do not fear God or even fear itself. I have faced fear in the most real of situations and conquered it. When you stare down fear from an enemy who means you harm, you tend to re-evaluate what fear really is. So for me there is no such thing as fear. I may hold back for lack of knowledge, but fear is not or ever will be a reason for me again. In regards to fearing God, I beleive that God is to be reverened. To admire all he has done and is capable of doing in our lives. I believe God wants our loyalty, but out of love not fear. You are unable to love something you fear. So the Bible says to fear God, when it means to admire and serve him with loyalty.

  40. Bottom line...like any good father,
God wants the best for us
whether we love Him or not,
    understand Him or not,
or even choose fear rather than reverence.

Too bad that in our humanity we spend so much
time trying to figure out the things of God...
which we NEVER will...instead of just appreciating
    all we're blessed with.

  41. If God created the universe and humans... for us to say that "I have faced fear" is really a finite statement... it's true we live in a broken world... and once I believe we have reverent fear for God and then understand that this creator actually wants a relationship with us... that is not only the beginning of knowledge and wisdom ... but the beginning of absolute empowerment and state of abundance in love... the brokeness of the world will eventually be redeemed for those that have this relationship.

with that being said... when you were young we feared our parents out of reverence and nobody has loved us more or proven that that them... fear is not a bad thing. It's healty and necessary spiritually.... now in business its a more abstact idea; fear is.

  42. Reverence of course... It's not alarm fear because at least my god is also is forgiving god. But we are reverent because he deserves that from us.

I love it!

      Dee

      This is awesome.

      Fathur - Jakarta
