Expecting Your Prosperity

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 6, 2010

When it comes to prosperity accepting it isn’t enough.  You have to expect it as well.  How you view your chances at successfully doing something has a great deal of effect on the way you approach the task.  Or more specifically, whether you even attempt it or not.

Many times someone will think of an invention.  They could patent the idea, sell the rights, and make a great deal of money.  Some people do this.  Often however, they have the idea and think, “Oh someone probably already thought of that.”  Or they talk themselves out of doing the idea, because they aren’t qualified to design it, manufacture it, or market it.  Of course they don’t need to know these things.  They just need to have the idea and find someone who wants to take it forward.

Or they may talk themselves out of competing in an athletic competition, asking someone to dance, or applying for a better position.  While the Universe offers us light, Edison still had to invent electricity.  And while you have electricity now, you still have to flip on the light switch.  Prosperity is waiting for you to call upon it.

Most people don’t make that call.  How about you?

Do you approach new projects with the belief that you will succeed—or expect you may need to fail a time or two, before you will get it right?  Do you enter a sporting event expecting to win—or thinking you are already beat?  Do you expect to be wealthy—or expect to struggle?  It’s worth some thought.

  1. Why is it that most people never take or continue the action towards success? I so wish I had the one answer to this question. What is it about human nature that we have to be in great pain before we ever change? Maybe I should start a chain of pain inducing virtual reality stores, where in one session you get brought to your pain threshold and leave with the motivation to take on the world. Could it be that easy? And why is it that when men don't approach an attractive confident woman? My friends say, "you are unapproachable"? What? Is this what having confidence does to a love life? How many opportunities do we lose out of in life because we never took action when we were inspired to do so? Isn't that God's way of saying, "Here it is, or here he or she is? What are your thoughts?

  2. Being a Canuck I get this show called Dragon's Den.. 5 self made, very rich biz people listen to biz, financing pitches... pale imitation of it in the States called Shark Tank with a couple of the Dragons... And unbelievable the amount of stupid, idiotic biz ideas people have that have no chance of succeeding.. and heartbreaking that they've poured hundreds of thousands into them!!!
My point being Randy.. really think something through, it's brutal watching the Dragons destroy someone's stupid idea... and I'm not into Jerry Springer type train wreck shows... I find those shows stupid and offensive...
This biz show is highly educational, especially if you are at all entrepreneurial... see someone crying and the hardest ass Dragon says, "Don't cry, money does not know about or respect tears... check it out at http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden
I also highly recommend, a Dragon's book, his name is Robert Herjavec, made a fortune in computer software with 3 different companies... it's called Driven... I think it's the best practical biz book I've read this year....

    1. I think they let those crazy and inane ideas on the show for entertainment value. And yes, you can learn a great deal from watching that show.

  3. Randy,

This is a great post and says "faith without works is dead". The universe gives me the ideas and persistence leads me to the finish line. I have to step forward and take the action. Edison once said he didn't have failures making the light bulb, he said "he knew 10,000 ways it wouldn't work".

Expecting something is not making a wish. It is knowing before you do it that it will happen.

    Thanks,
    Jim

  4. Randy,
This goes back to what are you saying to yourself all day long? If you say, I can't do this, you won't. If you say you will, you will!

So what are you saying to yourself?

  5. Hi Randy,

    Expectation precedes reality.

Practice telling the negative voices to shut up. Negative self talk kills more desires/dream than any source.

As I quiet the ego's shouting and listen to my intuition I expect and even demand prosperity.

  6. Do you approach new projects with the belief that you will succeed—or expect you may need to fail a time or two, before you will get it right?

That sentence really hit me randy....most personal development books, including my favorite "think and grow rich" put forth the meme that success is only achieved after failure...i.e lots of them, and it seems like theres plenty of real world evidence to back that..i.e edison and the lightbulb....1000 attempts I believe?

Now from what you wrote, I can infer that its a self limiting belief, and I should expect to succeed when I handle a project, and if a setback happens, thats when the persistence principle kicks in....
    What do you think?

    1. This is a great comment. Many of the success literature does create the expectation of many failures before success.

I know that personally I have set up about 10 companies. Robert Kiyosaki talks about the statistic - 9 out of 10 new companies fail in the first 5 years. That just means you need to be prepared to set up 10.

I took this deep within and say it jokingly all the time. 9 out of my 10 did fail in the first 5 years and now the 10th is bringing in a lot of money. I guess I thought I had to fail that many times to prove my persistence.

Hopefully now I can push on and continue to expect success.

  7. I am without a doubt the Gold Medal World Champion On High when it comes to being able to talk myself out of anything! A little trick I picked up from my parents, unfortunately, the only black mark on the list of fabulous esteem they endowed me with. Gladly I quite easily learned to A) recognize it, and B) get past it.

    Mostly!

  8. Dear Randy. I fully agree with what you say about positive thinking. Based on how our mind is thinking about what we are doing, that will we the consequences. It will also be the way we conduct ourselves in life, and that's what people see around us. My question is: How is the call that you say? I want to do it, but maybe I have the wrong telephone number and I'm calling the other side :). How do you know that you're calling prosperity? How do you realize that you are in prosperity and enjoy it, even though the bank account is not that we want? Is it loving everithing around you? How do you do to have that positive thinking, when many around are already depressed, hopeless, broken, and without desires? I believe that one must first start by changing the people around you, and the thoughts that you let get in your mind! But how do you find people with better attitudes? Just because the law of attraction? And the attraction through the reading of positive thoughts? Thanks for the time you spend to help us. A hug

  9. A rather timely post that applies to my situation. I am going to save this and read it over and over.
Issue number 2. I did come up with a formula for a rusproofing oil that actually works. I use it on all my cars and they never rust. It is a baby oil base with other ingredients used in cosmetics to thicken it up and repel water. The problem is that if I patent it then the combination of ingredients are out there for all to see and anyone can copy it. If someone does copy it then how can I realistically go after them legally? Nowadays you can look at all patents through the Net right on your laptop. I guess the answer would be to patent and then license it to a maker of rustproofing oil. But I would like to make it and sell it myself because there would be more profit in it and I already have the facility. What would you do Randy? As this is a dilemma for me.

  10. Randy, I spent a fair bit of time thinking about this over the last few days, and I took it in an interesting direction, but more on that in a moment. Do I approach projects thinking that I will succeed? Well, my conscious answer to that is, "yes", but I know that that's not really the case. And I wouldn't even say that I believe I have to fail first to succeed. What I probably really believe is that I'm not going to succeed at all in the big things - the things that would really transform my life into something extraordinary, especially financially.

I was browsing through the books on my shelf and pulled out Louise Hay's book. Although I wouldn't say that I think that her comments about the exact emotional causes for illness are the gospel truth, I did make a list of all of the persistent, niggly health problems I've recently had or currently have along with their emotional causes. I found an interesting pattern. The listed causes of MOST of these ailments are a fear of the future. That does ring true to me too. I cannot imagine that I am going to have an expectation of success if I have a fear of the future.
