Do You Have Fear or Power?

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 19, 2010

Sorry I’ve been slacking off on the postings.  I was doing a program in Rome, went on to Germany, and now I’m back downunder in Sydney.  Last post I asked you if we’re supposed to fear God, and if it serves us to do so.  We also looked at the definition of fear, if it was meant to mean alarm of danger, or reverence.

There has been some very intriguing thoughts in the comment section, so I hope you checked in with them and did some serious thinking about the issue.

We’re looking at all this not to compare your religious beliefs, as fascinating as that may be.  What I really want to explore is your fear about fear, and how it may be holding you back.  Hopefully you’ll discover what kind of subconscious programming you may have on fear.

Because what we’re really talking about is whether your beliefs are serving you…

If I believe that God gave me not fear, but power, love and a rational mind to make choices – then I am truly empowered as a co-creator in my life.  I need not fear if I am living in accord with true spiritual principles.

Now I must tell you that what I’ve just described is the belief in God I developed about 15 years ago, with continuous refinement.  And that belief has taken me from “victim hood” to victory.  Next post I’ll give you an example of how that works for me.

In the meantime, please check in with your thoughts.  Do you have fear, or power?

  1. Actually, I am coming to realize that fear has been an intricate part of my spiritual thoughts. Not totally scary fear but not an empowering fear either, like you state more of a "victim hood" mentality.

I have been following your thoughts, read your books, read a great book "The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity" by Catherine Ponder, and it has really started to open my eyes. And I now see I do have the power, love, and a rational mind to make choices and be the co-creator of my life. It's a wonderful and empowering feeling!

Thank you Randy for opening my eyes to delve into this whole idea of being a co-creator and becoming empowered. I honestly had never heard of it before you spoke of it.

    Warmly,
    Dorene Pierceall 🙂

  2. what we’re really talking about is whether your beliefs are serving you…

Absolutely, something we have to analyze everyday.

Whatever we are not changing, we are choosing....
it is so easy to remain a victim of the past

We have been programed since the day we are born, we act think and behave based on what was going on around us as we were growing up, but as adults we have the ability to change some of the beliefs that don't serve us any longer and create new ones.

That requires increase in awareness and understanding and the only way that is possible is by studying self, learning something new everyday, learning something from every situation we are in and being open minded.

    Thanks Randy

  3. I think the context of how fear is used in the Bible is important.

When we define fear as "reverence", then the definition of reverence is "A feeling of profound awe and respect and often love; veneration."

Most people may not know that definition of fear. I can't remember exactly what I was taught about fearing God. I think I did question it when I was very young. When I read passages where I think reverence is implied, I don't think it means alarm or danger. "Have fear but do not be afraid" came to my mind. Don't be afraid of God. God does not want to harm us. God wants us to be prosperous.

So if we define a fear of God as reverence, I think we have power, love and a rational mind to make choices.

Why I disagreed with confession was not because I feared God and I was afraid of God punishing me. I didn't think I need to confess to a priest to receive forgiveness. "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. (Matthew 6:14). I think this enables us to be able to forgive ourselves for our own mistakes and failures.

  4. powerful, as I said before, I walk side by side with my creator for he is my friend. I have no fear, just respect, as I do for all.

  5. A twist on the Forrest Gump-ism...fear is as fear does. If we believe God to be vengeful, wrathful, etc. well, that's what he is. But if we believe God to be loving, embracing, warm and compassionate, so he is. Our choice lies in which way we choose to see things...to go with what feels right inside. I like to think of God, or the Universe, or whatever you call it, conspiring on my behalf and the two of us sitting on a park bench creating the most magnificent life replete with all of the little things that make life grand. And we'd be giggling our asses off at all the wonderful little things we've thrown in like chocolate fountains, court-side seats, warm towels fresh out of the dryer, home-made chocolate chip cookies, fresh seafood on an Italian coast, surrounded by laughing friends and family.

  6. It’s so great to re-contact with you for long long days, Randy. I hope you have a wonderful trip. As you know, before knowing network marketing, I used to fear. I fear for all things for unknown reasons. Now, my fear is changing. I can feel but I am not sure what kind of things it will become. It is special that after reading your post, I am so happy with the word POWER. Yes, maybe fear in mine is transforming to power. How it can be, Randy?

  7. As stated in my comment to your last post I have lots of fears - A LOT! Like fear of rejection or failure, fear of betrayal etc etc etc - but working on and facing my fears on a daily basis gives me strength and power!

  8. Many people are moved into action by the fear of loss. I see the tactic used over and over to 'motivate' people into a purchase where the art of manipulation and deception are paramount.

Power or the capability to do or accomplish something does not require fear. I am suspect of ploys that play on people's basic fears instead of supporting and empowering their strength's. Fear or power, the stick or the carrot, which one produces an experience of accomplishment?

Fear, for me at least, produces disgust, shame and never an experience of wonder or joy. If I notice the fear [big IF] I can then pass over to whimsy and wonder which provides the energy to produce some kind of action where accomplishment and failure are possible.

  9. I think my only fear is sticking my neck out too far and risking my financial future by too much. I really enjoy being an entrepreneur and sometimes you have to be bold, have an opinion, and be willing to go down with the ship to defend it. Everyone in your life who is dependent on you is at risk as well... so that does give me some worries sometimes.

I have taught my children to go for their big dreams and be willing to live on the street if that is what you have to do to hold on to your dream. They are going for big dreams but so far their confidence is putting them on the other end of the spectrum -- they are successful so far because they are so confident.

In business, not everyone is successful. Even if you have a lot of confidence you can have a big fall once or twice before you make it big. The point is, though, if you keep trying eventually you will be successful.

  10. Randy,
I think you explained, very nicely, the difference between Fear as disempowerment and "Fear" as in respect/awe for who God is and what He has done for us. Also respect for the consequences that will come from not taking our Co-creator responsibilities seriously.
I look forward to your next post.

  11. "Ibelieve that God gave me not fear, but power, love and a rational mind to make choices – then I am truly empowered as a co-creator in my life. I need not fear if I am living in accord with true spiritual principles."

Wow! Randy, I never thought of belief in God in such a way. I especially love the part of not needing to fear if one lives in accord with true spiritual principles.

Think about that for a moment, this is not the same as living in accordance with a particular religion. Most of us brought up in strict religions are taught to believe that religious doctrin and spirituality are one in the same. It's only been in recent years that I have come to understand and realize that you can be all out religious doing whatever is viewed as right by whatever organization your affiliated with but that does not make you a truly spiritual person.
Someone who acts in spirit natually acts with love. Somone who is just going through the motions of doing what they think is right because the preacher says so is most likely acting on ego.

We as people looking to a higher concious would do well to ponder these words. What is truly motivating you? Everything we do should be motivated by love. Love for ourselves, God, family, envirement, helping others etc. If instead you are only looking for recognition, than you are motivated by ego and you won't go far for long on that.

If we are truly motivated by love, then you are right Randy, there is nothing to fear because as the bible tells us at 1John 4:8 "God is love."

Thanks for letting me share some insights.

My best to you always Randy,

  12. Although I appreciate the power of rational thought that I've been given, the thing that I do admit to 'fearing' is relying solely on that God-given power and living out of step with His will for my life. Trying to run the show alone and not asking for His guidance has never turned out well for me ...

    Best,
    Scott

  13. Thank you Bernice, your distinction has for me transmuted the energy of fear to the energy of reverance, thus allowing me to have a stronger connection with god.

  14. In my intuitive choir we sang on the intention faith - this concept is knew for me to discover. Interestingly Elisabeth our choirleader, when we talked about our experience afteward reported she had an intense feeling in the eyebrow center. Female contributer Natalie on the blog yesterday, who like me I understand has followed Randy for a long time, refered to neuro science about centers in the brain. Many here refer to words written in the Bibel.

I like what you are writing in this post Randy about your beliefs in God as some you developed 15 years ago like an invented thing, not that this is what you write but this is what I read. I think I could go with this approach of reinventing what others before me has invented. The interesting part being how much we add ourself.

What works? - is your question to us.

Intuitively I would say a trap for me to fall into would be to UNDERSTAND Gods ways. Much like what Jnana is pointing at it would inevitabel just be a mirror of me not God as Prime Creator.

Definitely my decovery that I've resisted letting loose of being in control, holding on to the rational mind, out of fear others would take control over me leaving me victimised, was not an empowering belief in God or Universal Law. So I choose to exchange that one. Thanks!

  15. So, to summarize, I have power instead of fearing God. I can co-create with God and I have the power to dream because I don't fear God. I have the power to make choices.

  16. Will my fear stop me from doing what I aim to ?
When I am taking a seat in the rollercaster I do feel the fear of what is coming. But in this case it will be excitements same things before a public speech. And its the same systemreaction as I feel of things I will avoid like dark alleys or footcrossing a crowdy motorway.
The difference is if I can stand my fear and have a discussion with my fear.
On the other side of the walls of my fear lies my best life. (Robin Sharma author of A cure for fear .

  17. love of God and being loved by God is what I want to cultivate and let go of fear of any kind...

with that in my I can enjoy my life without being fearful of what is wrong and right...thanks

  18. You're welcome Claire! I'm glad i made a difference and hope you're having fun creating your own image of a loving, giving, sharing God who loves smiling as much as the rest of us.
