Discerning Your Programming

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 19, 2010

Last post we discussed most people’s inability to discern when they have been programmed with something, versus coming to a belief after rational introspection.

I’ve often warned you about subliminal programming, and the long-term effect it can have on you.  A trip I took to Slovenia brought a perfect example…

I don’t normally read airline magazines, but since I hadn’t been to Ljubljana in a while, I started browsing trough the Adria Airways in-flight magazine to see what was going on in the region.

I saw a story on Hawaii, so of course I read it.  It was a very nice piece, touting the virtues of visiting the islands.  As I neared the end of the article, I was shocked at the blatant lack programming that popped in.  Here’s a paragraph from the story:

“Tourism is of course the reason why there are no longer any genuine relationships, since money can buy almost anything.  Luxury hotels and green golf courses in the middle of stony deserts are the requirements and the bait for Japanese tourists.  The wealthy and even those of more modest means from the land of the Samurai are the best visitors, and in their race to earn dollars the locals can even forget about the bombing of Pearl Harbor.”

Even if we make it past the inherent racism, the lack programming was almost unbelievable.  Translation:  Money ruins relationships, and causes people to act phony.  Money causes people to forget their principles, and sell their souls, so money must be bad.

How discerning are you about the stuff you read?  Would that paragraph buried in a tourism article have jumped up at you, the way it did with me?  Give that some thought and please share your comments below.

  1. I have not felt warm about that kind of propaganda at all, now when I have introduced myself to Randy's work - I have an explanation for that feeling.

If a subliminal programming is speaking in a person usually it's boring, blatant and gives a feeling of unauthenticity... and I can feel it! How great is that!

Thanks for making us consciously aware of such things Randy.
That's why many many things what people say on media etc. are so boring to me - it's not them talking, but a virus!

I'm not a person who gets bored, life's always interesting so I was wondering about that aspect - and I nailed it now! Thanks Randy!

  2. Randy, Thank you for pointing out this lack programming. The whole idea that money can buy everything with tourism not lending to genuine relationships is this journalist's way of looking at things. Because there are no coincidences or accidents, there will be deep relationships forged with or without money getting in the way among the native Islanders and the tourists whether they are Japanese or other nationalities. The reference of the Islanders because they want the money of the Japanese tourists will forget Pearl Harbor is nonsense. The reverse can be said that those in Hiroshima and Nagasaki will accept American tourists inspite of the atomic bombing because they want the money is again the same nonsense. We have to go beyond this sort of propaganda to really forgive and move forward to create peaceful relations globally.

  3. That was just rude. Can't believe the editor let it run. I would have been so insulted if i was just human, forget about being Japanese. This writer obviously have deep issues about prosperity too.

  4. I am just opening my eyes to all of this, and yes it is every where. We are right now the the middle of an election in our province, and the parties are trowing in everything they've got. I had stopped reading the newspaper but lately I have started reading it again just to find subliminal messages. They are every where.
And I am starting to be more aware of what is really going on....

  5. This stuff is like a red flag to me Randy.

I physically cringe when these viewpoints come up in conversation or in reading. Practice being aware of this 24-7 because the majority will continue to put this stuff out there, either purposely trying to influence of unintentionally speaking ignorance.

The trick is in spotting the uber-subliminal passages.

  6. It panders to lack programming so it attract a lot of readers and buy the magazines.
Tourism is not bad, a lot of the people are enjoying hotels and tourist spot, they build relationship going for a beautiful spot of the world..a
And beside it create a part time jobs for tour guide..

Given the sensationalism that now counts for News everywhere in the world, almost all media is filled with all kinds of negative programming and messages.

The unlimited access our children have, to information and thereby even further programming, means we as parents have to play a very different role from our own parents and are we able to discern that.

At the same time, the level of self-awareness each one of us has to exercise, for the same reason as above, is also a key area to work on.

    Thanks for an insightful post.

  8. The sad thing about what you read is that what it claims money is the cause of actually does exist in our world and not just to do with Hawaii.

However, it isn't the money that is the cause. It is the mindset and chosen actions of the people who allow themselves to be programmed from a very early age.

Until I began to question all I had ever believed and replaced some beliefs I had held for years I was indeed basing my choices in life on very mistaken ideas about the value of money in our lives.

Money is simply a tool that allows us to express our real selves more clearly...a wonderful thing really...IF we have shed all the propaganda we mistakenly allowed to be programmed into us for years.

Appreciate you and your passion for helping others to break free of the unconscious programming Randy!

  9. Now I'm able to discern the subliminal programming behind a movie or a text... It's frightening how we're all programmed in our lives. I know I wouldn't have this discernment without you Randy. Thank you 🙂

  10. Your example is an "in one's face" example. Not surprised that readers say they would detect.

The subliminal influences on us are often 100X more subtle (and thus 100X more dangerous). And, they come at us from so, so many directions.

Kudos for alerting us to the issue of being careful about to whom we rent space in our mind. This issue is a life changer for sure.

  11. Like Bones above I think that one would have stood out.

I think it is easier to discern stuff like that while reading but more difficult when it comes to TV.

Sometimes while being entertained we will miss the lack programming that hits us.

  12. The journalist had become subjective at that point, however, how much do you know about him/her? I'd have to see the larger context, and since you say it was toward the end of the article, I'm pretty sure that most causal readers didn't get that far....

  13. Being a journalist I love to read newspapers, but I'm really starting to cut back and just read the articles I'm most interested in, sports, food and wine, entertainment, etc... any neg headline I ignore... I was shocked when I received a Bob Proctor promo and it had a compilation of mag headlines from Time, Forbes, the Economist, etc for the last 30 years all these the sky is falling, economy worst it's ever been etc... just made me realize how much better it is to be aware of that neg stuff and ignore it... curious Randy, do you read any current publicatons???

  14. Thank you Randy for teaching me how to discern the subliminal programming in everything I read or see.

  15. Thanks Randy.
That paragraph jumped up at me too.
And your post made me reflexion about children's fairy tales such as Robin Hood, where we can find lack programming. The story teaches children that a "hero" steals from the rich (wicked people) to give it to the poor (good people). It teaches that it is good to steal from the rich because otherwise they will not share their wealth with others

  16. Randy,

I would have wondered why they would be talking this way? I think the biggest thing I notice in my life is being aware of the lack and limitation programming in me on a deeper level. Those very subliminal thoughts that come out of the gray mist and wham they are there.

Another area I notice is the bombardment I receive that includes subtle lack programming. The news we don't have enough. The people who I come in contact with. I am denying more than affirming sometimes.

  17. Omg I see those articles all the time as well as words from people in meetings where the goals are to encourage people to do more and be more. It cycles around to being the fault of someone else - and those people have ALL the money and they are using it against those who don't. Yes articles like that are glaring examples of lack programming.
