I knew what to expect when I put up yesterday’s post (make sure you read that if you haven’t already, so today’s makes more sense):  I figured some people would disagree, thinking that your inner compass is somehow divinely guided and thus unfailing.  That would be great.  Unfortunately it’s just not the case.

We live in the most fascinating time in human history, a time reeking with almost unlimited potential.  It’s also a dangerous time.  Here's why:

We have traversed a startling and cataclysmic turning point in the cultural evolution of human behavior:

Today we evolve more culturally from the selection of adaptive ideas, than we do from biological hereditary traits.

Put in simple terms, people are more influenced by mind viruses than they are by evolution and how they were designed.   And unfortunately, there are a lot more negative, disempowering mind viruses out there than positive, empowering ones.   Not to mention, the negative memes are more virulent.

That means your survival instincts, the inner knowing that is meant to protect and guide you, could be off.  And it doesn’t matter if you think it comes from God, evolution, or you just chalk it up to something as nebulous as intuition.  If a premise is flawed, everything that follows only gets more off target.

I said in simple terms, people are more influenced by mind viruses than physical evolution.   If we want to get deeper  (and thus, simpler), this means something else.  And you can choose whatever labeling best fits your belief structure:

A)  As a result of the programming you’re infected with, you could be living in sin – meaning you are missing the mark your creator set for you.  You are turning your back on your creator and the abundance that is your divine birthright.

B)  As a result of the programming you’re infected with, you could be taking daily actions that are contrary to your DNA.  You’re circumventing and sabotaging the safeguards meant to protect you and provide for your highest good.

This is where the “dangerous” part comes in:  Because when you are facing a momentous decision in your life, and you meditate, pray, or go into that quiet place for guidance – the answers you receive aren’t valid.

You move forward certain that you’ve been guided by Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, developed human intelligence, or whatever, but the data has been poisoned.

Because the entity delivering it – your subconscious mind – is influenced by conflicting motives and feeding you bad advice.  It like asking for directions out of the ‘hood from the guy who is planning to rob you.  He’s going to tell you there’s a shortcut right down that alley over there…

That can cause you to take actions from financially limiting ones  (causing you to miss a promotion or pass up a great business opportunity), to financially disastrous ones (going bankrupt, losing your home, or squandering your retirement).  You could take actions that are harmful to your health (bad food choices which cause obesity, high blood pressure, etc.) to ones that are fatal (obesity that leads to heart failure, addictions that lead to overdose, etc.).

If you chose option A above, it’s not because your creator has forsaken you.  In fact, it’s just the opposite.  If you chose option B, it doesn’t mean that you are crazy.  But you could act as though you are.

All this begets the really important question:  Labels aside – how do you know if you’ve been infected with negative programming to the degree that your compass is off and you’re actually self sabotaging yourself?

That’s where we’ll pick up next!

P.S.  I just arrived in Hollywood, where I’ll be in the live audience for the broadcast of one of my favorite shows – So You Think You Can Dance.  I’ll be limbered up, in case one of the contestants turns and ankle and they need me!  (Talk about delusional mind viruses…)

  1. My answer: look at the results!  Whenever I have followed the first (quiet and subtle, usually a statement) "voice", I experience more prosperous living. Listening to the second ("louder" and argumentative/emotionally driven questioning) "voice" yields results that are mixed-- some prosperous, others "not-so-much"-- depending on how well I have incorporated the prosperous mindset for such a situation.

  3. Interesting post Randy.. curious why Dance is one of your fav shows, while you've never checked out what is one of the best series ever on TV... Breaking Bad... fascinating look at a guy who starts out as a nice guy making bad decisions evolving into a bad guy making even worse ones...

    1.  @napadavid I love all the talent shows, because they bring out the best in high level achievers.  I've actually never heard of that other show.  -RG

  5. Well our thoughts are the first and best indicator since its our inner world that dictates the outer. And I agree that we've ALL been infected, though the more we expose ourselves to the mind viruses via the media and other sources, the worse the infection. People that are in denial about just how bad the mind viruses from the media are, will likely maintain where they are rather than achieving what the Universe designed them for. I cannot and will not expose myself to the negativity, lies and calculated brain washing the media and others push at us. After all, the work of growing and releasing all that blocks us from success and prosperity is a FULL time job, so why partake of anything that ruins the hard work we do!

Thanks again for the reminder Randy. This reminds me of just HOW much more work I must do.

  11. Let me guess:  I can tell I've been self-sabatoguing if my life isn't as serene and happy and fulfilling as I'd like it to be.  Someone's been sabatoguing me; I has met the enemy and she is me.

I have to disagree that "neg. mind viruses" are more virulent than the positive viruses.  I choose to believe that positive is always stronger than negative, tho' I do confess, I'm not sure how that works in this case.

      1.  @Randy_GageIs true, Randy.  I do recognize the strength of NMVs (Neg. Mind Viruses).  I like to play with metaphors, so let's see....
Norwalk Virus (for example) is pretty powerful - sometimes I think these virulent virus-strains are at the top of the food-chain, predators on humankind!  Nonetheless, not everyone who is exposed to Norwalk succumbs to it.   Why not?
Because positive is more powerful than negative.  Those who have strong immune systems don't get sick.  The lions take the weak wildebeast, not the strong ones.
There's two things we can do to conquer Virus, either Norwalk or NMVs
        1.  Strengthen our immune system (immerse ourselves in the Positive) This protects us as individuals.
        2.  Wash our hands well - ie, don't be a carrier. This helps to protect the whole herd.

Both of these are part of our human responsibility.  Thank you Randy for being one of the strong ones who are helping us, metaphorically speaking, to build up our immune systems, and reminding us of the need to wash our hands.

  15. Randy, you are a big hero.  However,  I believe like M. Scott Peck wrote, that our subconscious is where God speaks to us.  I also think we will still get the right answers from ourselves if we pray and meditate.  I think it is when we don't do that, when we don't listen to our instincts or our bodies that we get in trouble.  Most of the time our instincts don't fail us.  We fail ourselves by lying to ourselves our of fear or laziness or whatever.

I think you are right about many things and I believe that you give great, important advice.  But, people will only be able to discern what advice of yours to use by listening to their instincts and questioning what is right for them.  We all know our truths, we just abandon it for something less scary or easier.  Oh trust me, I know.

I understand what your saying.  I think what you really want us to do, is question those foundational beliefs that have been around for years and years, but may not be viable any longer.  However, I am not sure that it is wise to lead people away from their instincts.  I may not have the information you have, but I think our instincts are usually right on, and come from God, we lose when we don't follow it.

For instance, the information you give may be right for 95% of the population, but maybe not for the other 5%.  How do we test what your saying if we have no truth within us?

Yes moral compasses can be off, by bad information, and mind viruses, but believe me the truth is within us somewhere.  What we need to do is listen to innovators such as yourself, and take in new information and keep an open mind.  The truth will rise through the fog.  It may not be your truth exactly, but it will be the truth for whomever is contemplating it.

We've all got the ears.  Unfortunately, between damaged hearing, wax-buildup, and the noise-generators we like to plug into our ears, God's voice gets lost or, at best, distorted.  If we unplug, get our ears cleaned, and maybe invest in hearing aids, we might trust that we'll hear the "still small voice" a little more clearly.
I believe that Randy is addressing the distortion issue in this post.  We need to be aware that what we hear, and what's been said, can be entirely different.

I am (physically) hearing-challenged; believe me, without my hearing aids, I do not get a clear transmission - thank God for hearing aids!

I am (physically) hearing-challenged; believe me, without my hearing aids, I do not get a clear transmission - thank God for hearing aids!

    19. Hi Randy! I just wrote to a guy who literally copied your article entirely on his blog = Sorry to have to tell you this, but I am a friend of Randy Gage & I´m sure he wouldn´t like his article posted as yours... That is NOT RIGHT... And NOT COOL... Any thoughts or actions?

      1.  @monicasancio Some people really are completely ignorant of copyright laws and proper respect of others' work.  And some are aware but choose to plagiarize and think no one will know.  The best thing is to do what you did, and hopefully they see the prosperity mindset is to share great work, but always give proper attribution.
