Creativity for Prosperity

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 21, 2010

We’re looking again at the fascinating subject of harnessing creativity.  I mentioned the Internet in yesterday’s post. What brought that to mind was a conversation I had after a softball game.

The first baseman from one of my teams asked me if I thought he could make any money designing websites.  He has a lot of knowledge in this area, but has never done anything with it for money.  In fact, he’s kind of struggled the last couple of years, getting laid off from one job, then taking a few temporary assignments.  Now he is going to uproot and move to the middle of the country, to get his old job back.

Now here is the interesting thing.  I am making money on the
Internet.  Actually quite a bit by most people’s standards, and definitely a lot more than 99 percent of the businesses online.  Yet I know nothing about programming, code, or how computers work.

My teammate knows a hundred times more about computers, websites, and the Internet than I do.  Yet he has never made a dollar with it, and I am making lots of dollars.

What’s the difference?  Think about that and please share your thoughts below.  Then on the next post I’ll share what I think it is.

  1. 2 Words Randy: Prosperity Consciousness.

What you know is useless unless you use it. If your teammate developed their prosperity consciousness he wouldn't be asking you if he could be making money online, he'd be doing it now! He would believe that he could and would naturally attract the ideas and people to make it happen.

  2. Sometimes, we have pertinent knowledge to create prosperity, but cannot actually see the first step to getting started. Perhaps your teammate needs the gift of developing clear vision? If he took the time to get clear on what he desires, the answers on how to move forward would present themselves. It does sound like he is looking for security, given that he is traveling backward to work at a position that he has already mastered........perhaps he needs to have security re-framed from a different perspective.

  3. You take ACTION because despite your knowledge SCARCITY you also have FEAR SCARCITY . He doesn't because he is very PROSPEROUS in FEAR despite his PROSPERITY in knowledge.

  4. His knowledge is in making websites,
Your knowledge is in making money.

His actions lead him to make websites,
    but not make money.

Your actions lead you to make money, without building websites (someone else does it).

Your knowledge can buy his knowledge from someone else, his knowledge cannot buy yours.

You created an audience that will buy stuff from you- INCLUDING WEBSITES, he has not.

I have this conversation with my artist friends all the time- they know how to write interesting plays, or paint beautiful paintings, or tell a fantastic joke- but not how to make money with those talents.

Other people write shitty plays, paint like children, and steal other people's jokes, but they make a ton of money with them.

    They are separate skills.

    1. Great summary Bones.

Randy is able to attract so many people because he does provide great content on a consistent basis. If his content was crap we may come visit a couple times and buy something but we would not keep coming back. Randy has a big vision while his friend is chained down by limiting beliefs.

  5. Your friend is focused on money, or the lack of it, and how he can make it. You are focused on ideas and money flows from ideas. The better the idea, especially around solving big problems, the larger the amounts of money that flow from it. People don't have a money problem. They have an "idea" problem. Ideas are the currency of the Universe. You, Randy, come up with good ideas, act on them, and you are richly rewarded for doing so.

So, I'll ask everyone, including myself: what idea do you have that you are not acting on? Why not? All you need to know is the next step. Ask, believeing, and you shall receive the next step.

  6. The difference is the mindset. Someone who believes that he/she can be, do or have anything experiece different results

  7. Paraphrasing my grandfather; knowing how to do something and $1.25 buys 4 liters of Coca-Cola. 'School' spends all it's time giving you knowing and grading you on your answers. Knowing how to build websites is like knowing how to build bicycles. The knowing of which does not provide knowing how to market one to make money or to ride the bicycle.

Bones has written all that needs to be said about this except there are reasons for team. Some have skills combined with an experience that cannot be taught [except by experience] when melded with those who only can do the 'mechanical' parts provide a kind of synergy only possible in team, in networking. The glue, I think, is your willingness to be related, to be in relationship.

  8. It's because you make money by the techniques guys like him make with their knowledge, for example in MLM you need a web designing team to design your site for you and make it the way you can work with and make money.

The difference is the way you guys looking at it,you make money by the thing you do with using a website but he is gonna make money by designing that website. The website is just a tool for you in your business but designing websites is his business. With the knowledge he has he could make another eBay but he never looked it that way, he thought of himself as a web designer not a businessman who could earn more money by doing on-line businesses and designing his own website.

Bill Gates is a great example, he was a successful person in his job but decided to make his own company and become a businessman not just a programmer, although he was getting paid for that but that wasn't enough for him.

  9. What I believe we're discussing here is IDEAS. It's certainly great to have tons of technical knowledge since it's important in many respects. But without IDEAS that are creative, innovative and match up to needs, all the technical knowledge in the world won't make any difference.

So I believe the BIG difference between the web developer and Randy is that his ideas are timely, fit the need and are packaged and marketed well.

I'm working on one right now that I KNOW there's a need for and am raising seed capital to bring it to fruition.. Thanks Randy.

  10. The difference is Randy created a conduit to provide a product or service to anybody anywhere. Whereas the webdesigner is paid for his labor to create the functionality of the site, not the purpose behind it.

Randy has leveraged the power of the website to create an informational storefront allowing access to thousands of customers 24/7, all automated. The real power is providing value to as many people as possible and this is the activity that is most highly rewarded.

  11. I would say belief, taking action because you believe and where you focus your attention - knowing how to make websites vs. knowing how to make money. Excellent comment Bones!

  12. If he does designs websites but hasn't done it for money, then maybe he doesn't feel he is worthy of making money doing it.

It often comes down to self worth.

Does he truely believe what he does is worth anything?

Does he truely believe he is worthy of financial success?

  13. I realized I keep thinking I need permission to go ahead with some of my business ideas-- what I have realized is that's crap.

I'm an adult, and I don't need permission to start on a path of living my passion.

So how about we take action on ideas, not wait for permission.

  14. Difference is an attitude!
One can be a walking encyclopedia but with wrong attitude live the poorest n senseless life. and visa versa.
just remembered about two marketing specialists of Nike (if im not mistaken) sent to conquer African shoe market last century. The answer of 1st marketer was: "Boss, we will absolutely fail here coz none wears shoes at all". 2nd Marketer: "Boss, we got the best ever chance to sell shoes in the world, coz damn none of these guys here wear shoes n we gonna sell to each of them" 🙂

  15. Hi Randy
It was at your 3 Tenors seminar in Orlando in 2005 that I got switched onto Internet Marketing.
I have told this story many times cos it really hit me how you had an idea - you verbalised it - Ford (your web guy) translated this to your list and asked you for your index finger - you pressed "send" and the next day you had thousands of dollars in your account - virtual money like I had never seen before. Pure genius! And a great example of work smart not hard. Ford admitted he knew so much more than you when it came to technical info. but that you made so much more money than he did!
