Creating Your Future

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 9, 2009

We’re coming up to my favorite time of the year.  The time when I evaluate the year I’ve just had, and plan for the next one.  I think this reflection is important.

This is the perfect time to set goals, make resolutions, and create your action plan.  So make the most of it!  Take some serious time this week and reflect on what you want to do, have, and become in 2010.

And as you reflect on what you want for the New Year, spend some time on the behind the scenes stuff.  I’m talking about your “Why.”

So you want to make a million dollars.  Why?  You want to grow your business 300%.  Why?  You want to become a world-class ballroom dancer.  Why?

Some time spent on your “Why” will go a long way to helping you actually achieve the things you want.

P.S. I’m on my way home from Prague.  A little sad the EU tour has ended, but looking forward to the Florida sun and softball again.  I’m writing from the Concorde Room in the BA lounge at Heathrow.  Reminds me of the halcyon days flying Concorde.

  1. The "why" is so important in EVERYTHING that we do.

I'm a copywriter and one of the most important aspects of sales is that we display a "reason why"...which is basically the same thing you said Randy, just switched over to a selling environment.

  2. I learned this morning while listening to a CD from a mentor in my business that you don't get what you want in life, you get what you picture.
I am picturing myself earning $100K per month in my company by June of 2010 AND helping 100 people retire with minimum $5000 per month from our company. WHY?
Because I love network marketing and picture myself becoming an advocate for the business like my mentors Randy Gage and Eric Worre 😉

  3. I completely agree. This is the perfect time of year to reflect and plan for the upcoming year.

It's time to dust off the goals for 2009, review and look to the future to see what adjustments need to be done for 2010.

Next year and the next 4 years are going to come regardless, so it's up to us to take hold and make it happen.

  4. Yes, I agree that this is a VERY timely message. For the past few weeks and with the help of a friend who's very direct, I realized I am not now, nor have I ever been doing what I love, nor have I been holding a vision for my future. Knowing these things lead to setting goals.

As a result, I am in the process or inquiry into what it is I truly love and it's challenging. However, my goal and commitment is to uncover it resulting in an AMAZING Life, infinite abundance and bounding out of bed every morning eager for what I know will unfold!

My good finds me through many different avenues. I gratefully allow the Universe to provide for me in clever and wondrous ways!

    Thanks Randy!

  5. I couldn't say it better No matter what your goals are, unless you have a clearly defined motivation, you will have a much harder time getting through the hard times. Knowing your why keeps you focused on the goal.

  6. Will be brief. I want to make entire world better, because I desire to live in much more better one. Happy that you, Randy, desire to do the same thing. Am I right?

    Thank you for the post.

  7. I knew a guy who kept a piece of paper in his office with the word "WHY" on it. It reminded him to ask that question anytime he took action or really even thought about taking action.

    Goals with PURPOSE!

"Vision without action is a daydream...action without vision is a nightmare"

I say don't do something just to do it...know WHY you are doing it!

  8. When I was a child, I would head outside and remove myself from the fray of the holiday and often times it would be snowing and extremely quiet. I'd dream of the New Year while I dodged the falling flakes. It's a wonderful opportunity to extricate oneself and think, wonder, dream and set goals. This year, I'll be ensconced about 58 degrees north of the equator, off the grid, pondering from my Island Hideaway in Bocas del Toro - Isla Solarte. I'm hoping the quiet will avail all voices in my head to have their way - speak or forever hold their peace. Thank you RG for the fodder of the mind - season's greetings...

  10. You are so right: reflection, introspection, and planning are so important as the new year begins.

Several years ago I took a 12 week course on developing your intuition, led by a psychologist who specialized in recognizing, developing, and trusting your intuitive hunches. Every year, after I make my plans, I "test" the goals and plans against my intuition, using the intuition exercises I learned.

Sometimes I'll have a goal that intellectually I really, REALLY want. And sometimes when I do the "intuition test" (which goes a bit beyond the "why" question to "is this right for me at this time?"), my intuition will tell me that this is not a good plan. Every time I have gone against my intuition and allowed my "intellect" to rule, I have suffered serious, SERIOUS financial losses. Other times when my logical mind said something was a bad idea, but my intuition test gave it the green light, I have always MADE money, found happiness, achieved far more than I thought by honoring my intuition.

Making lists and goals is great. But the quiet time to answer the "why" question -- as well as to give those plans a good "gut check" is critical.

  11. "Anything is possible if your why is big enough."

It is always good to rethink your why because it can change.

Keeping a reminder of your why that you see daily can help to keep focused. For example, some friends of mine keep a picture of their kids on their refrigerator to help them focus & do the work to reach their goals.
