Creating Meaning in Your Life

Posted By: Randy GageMarch 23, 2016

There are so many seekers in the world today.  They’re desperately looking for meaning in their lives.  They join gangs and cults, religions and causes, desperate to find something that makes them feel good about themselves.  But here’s the vital truth about meaning…

You don’t find meaning in your life. You have to create it.

You begin with the building blocks of your past: the challenges you’ve faced, the victories you’ve won, and the failures you’ve experienced.

You take those building blocks and build the kind of person you want to be, day by day.  This process is an ongoing one, and it’s is about who you become, not what you accomplish.

There are lots of world champions, record holders, and people who achieved great things, but then slid back into a meaningless life.  Because titles, trophies, and awards, even achievements – can never really bring meaning to your life. You don’t climb Mount Everest to get in the Guinness Book of World Records.  You have to climb it because of the transmutation it can cause in you.

You bring meaning to your life by what you make important to you.  How you spend your time.  The challenges you are willing to face.  The people you choose to love and the way you view the world.

Your meaning comes from the way you treat animals and the unfortunate, and those who can’t help you. The things you believe, and the things you believe in.  And the things you’re willing to fight for.  The price you are willing to pay, to become the person you are truly meant to be.

There is no sage, guru or leader who can do this for you.  Perhaps they can inspire you, encourage you, or empower you. But only you can decide who you want to become.

All the ingredients are in the package.  But you and only you – can blend them together in a way that brings you joy, provides you dignity and gives you meaning.

  1. Excellent message Randy!  I totally agree.  Everyone wants to go from nothing to having everything instantly and they are missing the point.  Create the meaning in your life and become the person that you want to be!  The power is in the journey.  I miss your Prosperity Scopes, I hope you can do one again soon.

  2. Thanks for the great article Randy. It was just what I needed to read right now to remind me that the outcome of my future relies on me and not waiting around for someone to validate it for me. Thanks again

  3. Ppl often afraid to take a responsibility fot their lives i think. Its n1. And of course a laziness its a second reason of unsuccess.
Thanks for helping us to beat this .... reasons:)

  4. Hi Randy, you know, today  walking on street i was thinkig of my main goal, i finali realize that main goal i wanna achive its win the time

  5. I often equate meaning with purpose since in many ways they are synonymous though not completely. "The purpose of life is to live a life of purpose". Ken Behring, a billionaire real estate developer and former owner of the Seattle Seahawks wrote an amazing book on his journey to find purpose aptly names "The Road to Purpose".. In some ways it changed my life. Thanks for sharing this extraordinary post Randy.. much appreciated

  6. Insightful. Deep. Touching. Only someone who genuinely experiences that range of emotions, the satisfaction of doing something good without thought of reward, but just because you can, could ever capture that sentiment. Kudos, Randy - metaphoric and metamorphic.

  7. This post renders some well known "life and your search for meaning", I wont mention titles, "unecessary reading"..

"We", ~ us readers ~  trust you, love you and progressively get to know you. This has truth to it (as always)

#grateful RG. Very grateful, our prosperity coach! #bravo!

  8. Amazing! You are always motivating with your unique style of passing the message across in a more simplicity way.

  10. This blog has certainly been penned by someone who really has created a meaning for one's own life.
Randy, you always cut to the chase; no big and high-sounding words, no contorted pseudo-philosophical verbose, no religious connotations no atheistic baggage. Just pure, sincere and heart-to-heart sharing of a truth.
Man, you are such a blessing!

  11. You used some redundancy here.  You stated cults and religions, which are obviously the same thing.  The only difference between the two is a cult was established recently; a religion has been spewing bullshit for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years.  Both control their members by using fairytales, supernatural crap, and fear (but it works damn good, I must say).

  12. "All the ingredients are in the package.  But you and only you – can blend them together in a way that brings you joy, provides you dignity and gives you meaning."
    GREAT LINE!

  13. True. I am from Ethiopia. I created my purpose of life and meaning. 11 years ago and since then i am focused, persistent, consistent and even benefited financially. But above all i am truly happy. Thank  you for sharing this topic.

  14. Life is one and only and always has a choice, and everyone should have the possibility to choose the real opportunities that exist in life, which create a sense of life and attract positive changes in one's life.

  15. pandkenterprises And if you look at some of my earlier posts on organized religion, I often will use the wording "religious and other cults."  I chose not to do that here, so people don't get distracted by semantics and explore the issue of creating the meaning in their lives. - RG

  16. Great post. I often keep reminders as my background on my phone to stop me from getting distracted. I use something that gets me angry and wound up, something I am passionate about doing good for. This gets me back to work right away knowing I have to stop getting distracted if I want to make a difference.
