Choosing Happiness and Success

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 8, 2010

On a recent post we talked about choosing your thoughts. That was the follow up to the post on the oppressor and the oppressed.  Once you’ve conquered your thoughts, you’ll never be an oppressor or oppressed.

If you allow other people to program your thoughts, you’ll probably end up weak and miserable.  Success and happiness comes from lifting up your thoughts.  When you make a conscious decision about this and become vigilant about it, you start to manifest more and better things.   All prosperity is created in the mind first.

So how you doing on that?

  1. Even though I consciously know that happiness is a choice, I still get caught up in little storms of victimhood and negativity, but vigilance is what keeps me moving forward. I work on my thoughts every day and when I look at who I was 2-3 years ago and who I am today, I get goose bumps.

I have this James Allen quote above my computer screen as a constant reminder:

"Man is buffeted by circumstances so long as he believes himself to be the creature of outside conditions, but when he realizes that he is a creative power, and that he commands the hidden soil and seeds of his being out of which circumstances grow, he then becomes the rightful master of himself"

    Awesome!

  2. So far, so good Randy.

The challenge arises in choosing my thoughts continually when faced with people or situations which I perceive to be as negative. The key is to realize that every moment is a vehicle for our advancement. No matter how I interpret the situation it's meant to propel me forward.

It becomes easier to choose my thoughts realizing this fact.

This is the biggest battle we will fight the battle of our mind. I get asked all the time "whats the biggest challenge I had on my way to success" By far the biggest battle I had then and still have today is the 6 inches between my ears. "Great book What you say when you talk to yourself" You can change your state of mind by changing what your thinking/ saying to yourself.

    Great stuff Randy

  4. Hi Randy,
I am constantly working on my thoughts. It wasn't until the last few years that I realized that if I don't program me than someone else will.

I watch what I watch. TV is the ultimate programmer. I am familiar with what is going on in the world, but not immersed in it.

I also listen through the magic of an Ipod to positive messages. I am amazed what I hear on Sunday at Unity of Delray Beach and actually really hear on Thursday when I walk.

    Thanks for a great post.

  5. I had an interesting reaction to this post- as I was thinking about what thoughts I allow, I realized that having that guard is why I get so riled up in this forum sometimes; protecting my brain from what I perceive as a command about how to think.

But of course, I'm here to expand those thoughts.

Also, this is off-topic (for the moment), but I would LOVE to know what your opinion is of Seth Godin's Post today and the video:

    http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2010/09/marketing-to-the-bottom-of-the-pyramid.html

  6. Well we've all seen The Secret and are aware of the two more profound statements that permeated the video.. "What you think about, you bring about" and "Energy flows where attention goes"..

Monitoring thoughts is a full time job but crucial. I also find meditating helps to align my thoughts with my spirit, too. The next step is upping the ante in order that my thoughts and actions manifest the abundance I deserve and choose.. That's the work in progress!

  7. Randy,

    Great post.

What I find interesting is that the only thing that we have complete control over is our thoughts and actions but most will let those thoughts and actions will be shaped by the action of others or what the others think.

So a lot of us will let the actions and thoughts of others determine our level of happiness and success which puts a lot of power into the hands of those that we let shape our thoughts and actions.

Not only that but we allow them the power pull the rug from under us with that power as well.

    Keep up the great work!

  8. I was once involved in a Network Marketing Company. The hardest part for me was talking to strangers about the company, to hand out a DVD, etc...

My dominant thought as I'd walk up to people was stuff like "They won't want to talk to me...", "They're too old for the business..."

So, one day, I sat down and made a list of the ThoughtThings that seemed to hold me back, and I recorded an MP3 of affirmations specifically designed to negate the bad stuff.

I listened to my recording that day and went out talked to some random guy in the park about the business.

Of course, as with everything, if you don't do apply Slight Edge Principles (shout out to Jeff Olson!), stuff won't work for you long term.

That's my learning lesson from that story I think. Stuff can work for you once, but you have to keep doing it over and over across the expanse of time for the habits to work for you.

  9. I do my best to do great.

Sometimes when I talk about my thoughts and things I wanna do for my future, people look at me like I am from the Mars or something.

I listen to those who live a great life and are successful .

If we want a life full of joy and happiness we need to think the way successful people do.

  10. Love this one Randy.

I'm in the midst of focusing on that choice right now as a matter of fact! As you know - the book launches next tuesday. So I'm heavily focused on creating success with it - using all kinds of meditation and focusing techniques.

So Saturday night I cam down with the nastiest of nasty stomach flus. In Tahoe, 7K feet, an hour from a road camping with my horse. Sick driving home on Monday been in bed ever since. Barely keeping water down - at T-6 days til launch.

I learned a lesson through this - I CAN stay focused on the positive regardless of the situation at hand. I could choose to focus on the sickness, wail and gnash my teeth over being so sick with so much to do - but ya know what, that would only focus my choice on the negative.

So I'm in bed with my laptop, green tea (weak) and a bit of congee by my side, water as I can - focusing n the success of the book launch and ignoring my stomach as much as possible,

Its a choice, everything in life is a choice that we are empowered to make. Even when what's around us appears a bit (or mostly) ugly - we do have the choice to see the glimmer of positive in the darkness.

That's what I'm doing - and that glimmer is gonna be a bonfire roaring to a big Lift Off come next Tuesday!

  11. Depends on how you think about your thoughts, belief system, religion etc.

You can be an oppressor or oppressed and still think you're right and in control of yourself.

About the flip-flop story, apart from the business side of it,

if you know something about symbolism, you know that a ribbon is a programming enhancer symbol,

also used against (really FOR) breast cancer etc.

Not that I necessarily think the girl chose that symbol herself to have on the shoes or for that reason, but it doesn't matter, it's still there.

    You should ask yourself why.

Again, there's more to it than thoughts, and if you don't know about these things, you're certainly not in control of yourself:

    Colors

    Dreams

    Numerology

    Sexuality

    Sound

    Symbology

There is a reason the above is not exactly promoted as self development tools.

Again, they don't want you to know about it, or give you a false version of it, so they can control you and your thoughts.

And you may still think you're successful.

    A simple power post deserves

  13. I'm doing really great on handling my thoughts well, watching what I think and what I say and also making sure I live life according to my own terms and choices and not living someone else's terms and choices and it feels so so great. It also makes me feel happy and feel that I have full control over my life, which I truly do too :).

  14. Well, some days I do better at that than others. When faced with challenging circumstances I sometimes allow my mindset to be influenced in a negative way. Once I notice that I'm feeling miserable or unhappy, I realise that I have the power to change my thoughts and I feel better again. I just have to get the hang of keeping my thoughts where I want them regardless of what is happening around me, rather than waiting to be affected by circumstances before I take better control of my thoughts.
