Changing Your Life

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 28, 2013

You really can change your life.  Anyone can.  But it’s usually not easy.

It begins with a decision.

You have to honestly come to terms with who you are and commit to changing.  You have to decide.

You can go from ignorant to enlightened.   You can go from sick to healthy.  You can go from broke to wealthy.  You can go from lazy to an overachiever.  You can go from ordinary to world-class, mediocre to epic.

It starts with that decision.  Then it takes daily action.  Yes, you may backslide; most people do.  That’s just part of the learning process.

Then you may face some serious obstacles.  That’s normal too.  That’s just the universe testing to see if you are serious.  Then you’ll see some progress.  Small victories.

Which will lead you to the next decision…

Whether to pat yourself on the back and settle in your new comfort zone – or celebrate the victory and challenge yourself to do even better.   That’s when you get to the real fun:  having breakthroughs, breaking records, being world-class, doing EPIC things.

Then you’ll likely face some people who want to reign you in.  Hold you back.  They may criticize or ridicule you.  If you’re doing something really epic, you’ll attract some haters.  They don't hate you, they hate themselves and attack you, because you're a reflection of what they want to be.

Love them and let them grow.  But set boundaries.  You may have to limit your exposure to some of these people.  Others you may need to remove from your life completely.

Sometime you have to change your environment: where you live or work.  Change routines.  Replace an old habit with a new one.

If you want to change your life – you must be willing to make changes…

It takes lots and lots of changes.  Some seem so small, some seem drastic.  But taken together they do something magic.

They allow you to change your life.  You get to become the you that you were truly meant to be!

    1. @EdieGalley1 great post Randy, and the fascinating thing is each time you challenge yourself and achieve more you become more in the process. And the question you have to ask then is, are you achieving more because you are becoming more or are you becoming more because you are achieving more, one feeds the other I guess.  But in the final analyses at the time of our passing all that we have will belong to someone else, and all that we are will be ours forever.

  1. You're always right in alignment with what I need for the day! Folding this in as I process and make decisions on game changing actions I am ready to make! Rock on! Always thanks!!

  3. WOW... Randy this is SO great.. I especially like the part about noticing change and then committing to CONTINUE to change.. I can only speak for myself but this is where I tend to slow down and settle. And I guess that's the point: NEVER SETTLE... Can we get a BOOM!!!   Thanks so much 🙂

  5. Randy, I am living proof of everything you shared in this post.  I started the journey of change in 2008 and it has been quite a ride. I now share my personal story with other women and encourage them to face change and become the person they  were meant to be -  regardless of their age!

Your words are always enlightening, encouraging and so timely.

  13. Change is definitely a decision we have to make for ourselves, Randy! If we want it... we will have to choose and go get it!  There's a familiar thought that says, "If your boat hasn't come yet, swim out to it." Love that! I find that after the desire for change is deep enough within the individual -- usually, around the time they have lost months of sleep, or their diet has no more balance to it, than a elephant trying to balance itself on a toothpick -- only then will change occur for some of us. (slowly raises my hand in admittance) Sometimes all "some of us" need is a little pressure around the neck to put us in a more motivated mind frame - chang becomes a bit more necessary, ya know. 😀 Pressure is good though, at times. When our lives are being tested, we become more resourceful, creative, and dedicated to break loose of it's grip. Plus, if we learn from the experience to make even better decisions, I'd say that's one of those small victories that you mentioned in the text. It's also a cause for celebration! The best celebration is never having to learn that lesson ever again. Always going for the next experience! :)) Great message mate! Thanks for the sharpening!

  16. Sometimes a change in your environment has a significant impact. When you change where you are you may feel different because sometimes you associate how you are with where you are. Being in a new environment lets you feel afresh. But remember, sometimes, no matter where you go, there you are.

  20. If we improve 1% a day, can you imagine the kind of person you can be after a year. You will resists huge change, but what about 1%? Is this more manageable?
