Building a Better You

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 19, 2011

Happy Monday!  I hope you’re having a great one.  Read some fascinating research over the weekend on New Year’s resolutions…

It said the number one resolution is for a better job.  The second most popular is becoming a better person.  And the third is losing weight.

Fascinating order…

Since if you put number two first, the other two would probably take care of themselves.

If you work on developing your highest consciousness, all the detail stuff – whether it is your job, weight, health, relationships, or whatever – simply falls into its rightful place.

Become a better person, and you make better choices about everything from potential mates, exercise schedules, food choices, and job interviews.  Become a better person and you attract a whole different caliber of opportunities, people and circumstances into your life.

If you spend 30 minutes a day on you, the level of improvement in your consciousness is simply breathtaking, after only a few months.  A year of devoted self-development yields results that border on the seeming impossible.  People who haven’t seen you are simply amazed at the change in you.

Just 30 minutes a day.  Could be reading, or listening to CDs.  Do 60 minutes and the results are bordering on the insane!

After a year of the 60-minute regimen I added a couple million to my net worth, ended a ten-year negative relationship pattern, and surmounted some serious health challenges.

Then I got complacent.  Went back to 30 minutes.  And now I’m thinking I need to step it up again.

What about you?

How much time do you spend daily on your personal development?  And is it time to increase it?

  1. Started out with the adviced 30 minutes, listening to CD´s, reading whatever avaleable and looking at videos on Utube. Then I noticed a couple of changes witin that more or less just had snook up on me, and I got "hungry" for more because it was such a positive experience. Now I spend on average 2 hours a day on selv development, still reading and what I now find most rewarding is doing the breathing exercise to relax and focus before listening to a CD. This is really recogmendeable.

  2. I spend more time trying to think positive healthy prosperous thoughts, my problem is those negative thoughts come so easily most about debt or lack. I wake up in the morning and they start rolling faster than the wheels in a NASCAR race.

Do you have a better solution than "cancel, cancel, cancel" and replacing them with good affirmations?

Please don't think I'm a sad sack! I say affirmations all day though, I have a program that flashes them on my computer screen, I get up every morning and I work hard. I'm just feeling like wow, I've been working on this for about 15 years when I first read The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. I have been able to manifest great things along the way, I'd just like to be able to be more consistent at it.

  3. that's something I go in waves of commitment on, but I'm in...for 60min. anyone want be accountability partners? or maybe I'll start a blog....watch out randy 🙂

  4. Hi RG,

Excellent stuff here. The changes really are miraculous when you stick with personal development persistently.

I spend 10 minutes each of my working hours doing PD. Most of the time I meditate. Sometimes I affirm or visualize. I spend 10 to 20 minutes meditating first thing in the morning and usually wrap up the day with a 10 to 20 minute night session.

So at least an hour and a half of PD for me daily. Sometimes 2 hours on up. I saw what happened when I spent time doing PD, and when I didn't. When I slacked, I suffered. When I stuck with it, I prospered. I went from penniless....OK 4 pennies ;)...a fear years back to travelling Southeast Asia for a year now. Just published by first book of inspirational quotes. My team is growing, network is exploding, 700 youtube videos, over 1000 blog posts, 1000 plus inspirational quotes, and all of these pretty darn neat things happened because I spent serious time working on the inner world.

OK gotta go for my 11:00 meditation session here in Phuket 😉 Thanks for sharing with us Randy!

  5. Thank you for the reminder Randy of where I need to keep my focus. You have a great way of making the metaphysical practical. It's time for me to invest more time and focus on my personal growth, so thank you for the reminder!

  6. I Spend 1 to 2 hours in Self Development Daily. It has totally had a postive impact in all areas of my life. It Works 100% of the time guaranteed if you put in the time.

  7. I'd like to add that I have someone in my life that is very close to me that suffers from depression. It's so hard to not get sucked into their black-hole, as depression does not adhere to logic.

I feel I've maintained pretty darn well for a person in my position but gosh I could use a boost.

There's a book idea for you Randy, and trust me I'm not the only one in this boat. There are tons and tons of people out there that have loved ones that suffer from depression and/or mental illness.

  8. Yes I need to do more. Ive been a bit out of balance. Giving too much energy to work over anything else. I think yoga and meditation is in order too.

  9. Randy,
I think that is the perfect description of Divine Order...The other mistake we make is beating ourselves up for not being perfect, which for me leads to doing nothing.

How come everyone tells you Avacado's are fattening when I am on a diet. No one talks about the ice cream and cookies which is why I am eating sensibly and working out. Another divine order.
    Have a great week.
    Jim

  10. I do as much as I can do daily. that without taking time from my family, and physical trainings. As much as we can do is always the best way to go...

  11. GREAT!
I read self improvement books about 2 hours a day. Listening Tony Robbins Cds (Get the Edge) for an hour (while sitting in the traffic)
30 min yoga every other day.
I turned into a vegetarian a week ago.
Read other self help blogs and trying to contribute by leaving comments that actually has to do with the post 🙂

.....and I came to the conclusion that more I do the hungrier I am.
Self realization is a never ending process....
If you don't grow that means you're dead.
    Anyone with me on that????
cheers from the sunny west side!

  12. I suppose it is time to increase the time spent on personal growth. Although if I include the focus I have when exercising in addition to my meditation, writing my gratitude statements, envisioning my life and purpose and a little reading, I would be well over the 60 minutes. But I think I can add some additional reading, though I think it's healthy to focus on one ideology, rather than adopting numerous perspectives which may confuse the focus.

Personally, I find writing the many things I'm grateful in Life first thing after my meditation is a great way to start the day!

Thanks Randy.. As always, your reminders are so valuable. I'm grateful for this too!

  13. Randy, this is great advice. A while back I asked a room of business owners to raise their hands if they believed innovation was important to growing their business. Two hundred ands went up. I then asked them to raise their hands if they devoted 4 hours a week to creative thinking. No hands went up. Two hours? no hands. One hour? No hands. Your advice to set aside some time to improving ourselves is terrific ... now I wonder how many will do it

  14. I'm honestly not sure how much time I spend daily. It does vary a lot day to day. I don't necessarily focus on personal development only but on learning in general. I'm not a groundhog day kind of person any more. Some days I would only spend 15 minutes reading a good book before bed and other times I would watch an online seminar for a few hours. I am participating in an 18-month investing coaching program and my coach gives me homework every week, some of which includes mindset stuff and pushing through and doing stuff I've never done before. I often come up against fear, but it's really not all that bad once I push through and just get it done. That's already on top of my uni attendance and homework after working hours. I'm not sure I'd classify these as personal development in the purest sense, but I am working on improving myself in some area every single day.

I agree with you Randy, over a period of years it makes an enormous difference. I struggle to have conversations with other people my age who've just been going to work and coming home and doing the usual stuff every night. We have little in common anymore!

  15. Never let a day pass without looking for the good, feeling the good within you, praising, appreciating, blessing, and being grateful.
Make it your life commitment, and you will stand in utter awe of what happens in your life.~ The Secret

  16. Hi Randy,

thanks for sharing your insights. It's amazing how many people are focusing on stuff outside of them, like the better job or more money. Becoming a better person through personal development and learning the skills it takes through education is the highway to success. Focus on the What and the Why and the How will fall into place, it will at least become a lot easier to learn the How and do it.

    Take care

    Oliver

  17. For the past 6 months I have been putting in at least 2 hrs per day in PD. I AM SPEECHLESS. Devote and set a specific time for you and YOU will grow.

I also wake and start my day listening to a few pocdcasts and move on to inspirational readings.

Randy you are awesome and is my favorite mentor .
