Bombay Nightmares

Posted By: Randy GageMarch 19, 2010

So I’ve just finished my programs in the Netherlands and head to London in an hour.  The last time I was there was a perfect demonstration of the lack and limitation programming you get from pop culture.

We took the tube into Piccadilly for dinner and then went over to the west end to catch a show.  We wanted to see “We Will Rock You,” the play based on Queen and Freddie Mercury, but it and a lot of other shows were dark on Sunday.  So we ended up going to see “Bombay Dreams,” which was the current production from the factory known as Andrew Lloyd Weber.

It was the perfect demonstration of the lessons we’ve been discussing of late.  This play proved that Bollywood is just as clichéd and predictable as Hollywood – and just as infected with mind viruses.

The basic plot:  Kind-hearted good people living in the slums of Bombay are driven out and assaulted by the greedy, rich developers.  Lawyer, movie producer and others sell their soul for money.  Slum boy gets discovered and becomes a movie star.  The money changes him, and he forgets all about his former friends in the slums.  (Just to complete the cliché, he is being interviewed on TV, and pretends not to know his old friends who are calling his name from behind the velvet ropes.)

There are rich movie producers and rich mafia bosses who are all loud, arrogant and obnoxious.  The mafia guy demonstrates that he can buy anyone.  We’re treated to one of his private parties where we learn that wealthy people are all cocaine addicts, cheat on their wives, etc.

Of course in the end, our hero turns his back on fame and fortune and returns to the slums, walking off into the moonset, holding hands with his love.

Excuse me while I puke...

So what is the last play you saw, novel you read, movie you went to, or TV show you watched?  What were the subliminal messages in them?  It’s worth some thought.

  1. LOL...Since I've read your books and have read your blogs, I have noticed TV is Lack Programming and so are a lot of movies! I think being aware of it is a stepping stone from before when I was not aware,

    Thanks Randy

  2. I loved your comment about wanting to puke.. I know the feeling, LOL.

I just watched "Up in the Air" with George Clooney. If you've seen it you know it's about a guy who is emotionally withdrawn and as life would have it works for a company who's purpose is to assist with the termination of employees. He flies constantly, etc, etc. The lack programming I see here isn't immediately visible but after some thought, it appears that the message being delivered is fear. Yes it's reality in our current economy but it's not the sort of inspirational message that would be best served nor does it teach possibility. Does that make sense?

  3. I watched slumdog millionaire lately and it has the same sort of plot. What are your thoughts about the effect if you are AWARE that it is sending you a subliminal message? Is it than still so effective?

  4. Just watched Funny People with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan. I don't get it - with a title like that, we didn't find it at all funny. I would rate it MV for Mind Viruses; Strong poverty programming unsuitable for prosperity minded individuals. Randy, don't waste your time with this one. The lack programming was blatantly obvious. But I've come to realize everything acted in or produced by Adam Sandler is centered around some form of "rich people are bad, evil monsters - so root for the underdog to take down the monster" type of bullshit. Billy Madison was funny in college but now I see it as it is; simple herd-centric drivel holding people back from their true potential.

  5. I am in a league of my own, I don't like Andrew Lloyd Weber. However, I went to see "In the Heights" last night about a barrio (ghetto for the gringos) in New York City, (Washington Heigts). There was a lot of poor talk, but they managed to figure out their problems and have a successful ending. Excellent show with a modern day "West Side Story" theme.

  6. Hey Randy, The last movie I saw was Avatar. Loved the visual effects with Imax and 3d. I remember you saying you would discuss the lack programming in this movie. I'm not sure I was aware of it all.

The part I can think of is when the forests were being destroyed and the Na'vi feeling there are no more forests.

  7. Hi Randy,
after ur question, i remembered abt one of my favorite movies, that's "If Only". Been thinking a lot abt its main message, reasons why im so impressed by it every time i watch. main message this movie gave me - is the value of TIME that maybe given only once n never returns, and the chance to enjoy prosperity called LOVE, to value a chance to express ur love to beloved one, and manage to live everyday with this pure feeling...before it is too late.
We get what we give, so i love this philosophy!

  8. Wanted- a story of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice. 25-year-old Wes was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known brought to awareness by Angelia Jolie's Assassin character. the message of mindless vengeance will build character and strength. The action scenes and graphics thinly mask the message that a man has to be violent to grow out of the rut society has him in.

"The Serpent Cult is operating on a far higher level of awareness than what you see as the human race. They are literally running a global system of spiritual control alongside the prison you sadly believe is normal life. You haven't got a normal life, you are not experiencing a normal life. You are a prisoner.

You are a prisoner but your ego makes you live in denial.

The five sense world we live is the shit tub of all existences.

The Serpent Cult easily abuses our subconscious because our ignorance and ego makes it easy to do so.

The real you has been imprisoned in your subconscious and the egotistical false you is determined to keep you there and have you walking the prison called planet Earth for eternity.

To be totally honest with you I only see the exact same consciousness controlling this planet that has already been around for thousands of years. That is a consciousness of greed, ego and bullshit and currently it is not shifting anywhere, it is just strengthening itself.

You are in complete control of your own mind eh? I'll tell you all today that you have never had control of your own mind. You only see what is shown you.

How can you have control of your own mind when you don't even know who you are?"

  10. My kids love the High School Musical movies.
Same memes/themes/viruses. The problem I found is that it's not only jammed packed with the 'rich people are evil, and 'it's fun to be the underdog' themes but somehow the messages were made so much more blatantly obvious. I don't know if it's scripted that way so kids 'get it' or whether I am more in tune with it. Either way it got to the point that one puked a number of times and I was contemplating gouging my eyes out with a red hot poker and then stuffing my ears with caustic soda soaked cotton buds so I wouldn't have to see or hear this crap anymore :).
Unfortunately the kids were glued to the screen and trying to do that to them would land me in let's call it 'hot water', and turning it off would have started WWIII. Not all was lost though.
A carefully planned and brilliantly executed de-brief was held right after the session of mind-torture.

Oh, and Hannah Montana shows . . . How do I swear profusely without actually writing bad words here?

  11. Randy,
    (continuing from an earlier comment)

Please let me know if you know anybody that could be of assistance.

The way I see it, the only people who can help are people like us, skilled network marketers.

    I am refering to:
Blue Gold: The Tsilhqot'in Fight for Teztan Biny (Fish Lake)

Who else could find the people who would be able to save this lake from a kooky mining plan that will destroy a species of fish, the livelihoods of the traditional peoples who depend it, and spread toxic acid rock around during the next glacial expansion.

See "Raventrust" and "Friends of the Nemaiah Valley" their websites for ways to help.

  12. Last night I watched a recorded disk of the Discovery channel "The world`s Richest People".
People presented there are world's multimillionaires. I tell you these men are great. They have brilliant intellects, a good heart and an open mind.
The Discovery did a good job by not adding anything false or any misrepresentation to them.
Now I am not even sure what is better, the Avatar or this documentary stuff.

  13. Play- 'In the Heights'- Entertaining.

Novel-'Atlas Shrugged'-especially reading the famous court scene for the 5th
time! *I Love Ayn Rand and her books.

Avatar-Beautiful & Incredible graphics, but beware of subliminal
messages! Portrays being wealthy as almost an Accusation or a
Crime. Despises humanity for not taking care of the environment.
The messages were disempowering and technology is a curse.

Well, lets put our cellphones, laptops and movie projectors/film
equipment so we won't destroy our environment any further. OH
Oh Please, Mr. Cameron- such hypocrisy!!!

BEWARE of what you program into your subconscious mind. Only feed
your mind with healthy thoughts and reject the rest. We do have a
    choice.

  14. Since we are puking, Let me puke back.
Kind-hearted good people living in the slums of Bombay are driven out and assaulted by the greedy, rich developers.

What do you think happened in Iraq?$3 trillions spend on unnecessay war, 4385 dead Americans, ten of thousands disfigured for life, hundred of thousands with brain concusions for the next 40 years while the Oil companies were making record profits and receiving goverment handouts-subsidies.
Blood for oil=profits for a few!!!

  15. I very rarely watch movies or TV shows anymore because they do send messages that make the wealthy look bad. I have decided to just spend my time on me and the projects that I want to produce to help others focus on themselves. Have a great weekend.

  16. I guess I am one of the few people who actually has some very rich relatives. They are in France and own 4 beautiful properties. 1. regular home. 2. summer/country house 3. place on the riviera 4. In the ski hills near Tarpes. If you end up owning 1 property in your lifetime in France you're doing well. Anyway, they are nothing like what the media portays rich people to be. I have spent much time with them on summer holidays when I was a kid and really enjoyed it. They are the nicest, most reasonable people you could ever meet. You spend enough time with them and then you realize how common and vulgar the rest of us really are!! The Father came from modest means and ended up with the rights to distribute auto parts in certain regions. He employs 300 plus people just to give an idea. When he goes into work he even tips his hat to the janitor! They don't care much for the mass media and would rather read books in their spare time. They very rarely get angry or start arguing about stuff. They don't talk too much and never talk about nonsense or foolishness. They were always kind and considerate towards everyone. They work hard and they play hard as well. They are extremely patient. They do keep themselves separate from the general public and hang around other rich people. They are the member of the rotarians and involve themselves with helping those who need it. The message the media gives about rich people is, from what I've seen, completely untrue. It may probaly stem from jelousy more than anything else.

  17. The truth is that like with so many things, we will find exactly what we are looking for or focusing on...either way, positive or negative regardless of being rich or not rich. Rich is a relative term anyway, isn't it?
I believe perception is a choice...the more care we use to be aware & choose where we are spending our time and energy, the more we will associate with people, places, and situations that serve others as well as ourselves. Embrace what resonates and let the rest go.

  18. Good Comment. I had to read it over a few times to get the complete message. Being with them was an entirely positive experience from a kid's perspective.

  19. I was thinking a bit about this issue. Let's face it, there are some rich, powerful people out there who have influence in the government and use that power and wealth to their own benefit regardless of the cost to anybody else or the fragile environment we live in. There are big companies that take advantage of their workers by paying low wages and offer bad working conditions. I know of meat processing companies that set up in areas of high unemployment so it's a buyers market for them. I am sure there exists some very bad rich people who obtined their wealth by being unscrupulous. I know of a couple of them myself. Back to the media - most of it is mindless garbage and to portray rich people as nice, caring individuals may not be good for box office sales. I do not understand though why they are painted in a negative light most of the time. Maybe another ploy to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  20. "So what is the last play you saw, novel you read, movie you went to, or TV show you watched? What were the subliminal messages in them? It’s worth some thought."

"Avatar" was the last movie that I saw. I think there are good & bad messages in the movie.

In Randy's book, "Why you're dumb, Sick & Broke...And How to Get Smart, Healthy & Rich!" he lists some common subliminal messages such as:
    * Rich people are evil
    * It is spiritual or noble to be poor
    * If you struggle & grind it out, you'll be accepted by others doing the same
    * Underdogs and the little guys are good; big entities are bad
    * You have to sell your soul to get rich
    * Rich people lie, cheat and steal money causes good people to go bad

How many of these do you see in "Avatar" if you think about it?

And I think there are other messages:
such as humans destroying the rain forests & other cultures
    People wearing masks
    Diplomacy
    the herd mentality
    egos
(could think of more if I keep thinking about it)

I have heard of other negative things about the movie such as it is a pagan movie. This could just be someone's interpretation and other people may have their own interpretation.

But I think there are good messages too:
    learning
    seeing
    change
    leadership
    networking
the importance of home & community
    the power of self-talk
    love
    God (they call God "Eywa")
know, like & trust (but for the right reasons)
    forgiveness
    not being a victim
    choosing
    dreams becoming reality

Messages...becoming aware of them...what we choose to see.

  21. If I didn't know better, I'd think you'd would be a good candidate for gnosticism. The Gospel of St. Thomas shows that is what Jesus Christ originally taught. I tend to think that may be true.
