Believing in a Dream

Posted By: Randy GageOctober 18, 2018

Want to hear the best motivational story you’ll ever hear from a non-motivational speaker?  It comes courtesy of my friend Matt Kramer.  Matt isn’t a motivational speaker.  He’s a rock star.  And by that, I don’t mean he’s a rock star because he’s good at some thing or another.  I mean he’s actually a fucking rock star.

Matt was the front man for Saigon Kick, an indie rock band that exploded on the scene in Miami back around ’88.  Here’s his story…

When he was in high school, Matt’s mom got a request to come to school for an urgent meeting.  When she arrived, the counselor was sitting with Matt.  He told her that he was trying to help Matt select a college and career path.  But the counselor was exasperated, because Matt kept insisting he wanted to drop out of school and become the lead singer in a rock band.  The counselor asked Matt's mom for her help, to talk Matt out of his crazy, unpractical dream.  Know what his mom said?

“I believe he’s going to do it.”

And that’s exactly what he did.  Matt lived his dream, rocking stages around the world.  And today he’s a successful voice coach.

So here’s the question for you…

Right now, or sometime soon, someone close to you is going to ask you to believe in their dream.  And that dream might sound crazy and unpractical.

How are you going to respond when they do?

Oh and one other thing.  That person may be really close to you.  Because it might be you.

P.S. Special treat on the podcast this week. An interview Tim Martin did with me on his Success is Voluntary show.  Listen here.

  1. Dreams provide motivation that should lead to engagement in the planning and addressing of those dreams. True, the dreamer must decide to engage. But we all owe it to the dreamers to constructively support their dreams - as contrasted with consciously (or unconsciously) squashing them!!!

Still not convinced? What if the dreamer was you? Oh, by the way, you are a dreamer, right? If not, why not?

  2. I have a brother of mine who wants to be a musician, but he does not play any instrument and he does not practice any. He tells me that this is his dream, but I do not see him working for it. What should I do? Find out what is your true dream or help you draw a plan to be a musician?

    1. THat's a different issue. People who only talk about a dream but do nothing to get it are simply deceiving themselves and you. Give your support to the people in action. And care enough about the rest to tell them the truth. -RG

  3. I am not interested in a relationship. There is too much work to do and I would choose myself/love/the universe over a relationship. I think relationships can be better. There is a lot of work to do before we get to that point. So I am posting here to help people. Please look elsewhere for a relationship. A lot of work needs to be done on equality, kindness (vs abuse/discrimination), and life (vs death). so no, I don't want to be in a relationship.

I need to work, go to school, work on my side business/hobby, exercise, and sleep. Abusive/unequal relationships would do too much harm. So I will stay out of relationships. I have to look for new paid work that is congruent with my major, hobby, exercise, and sleep.
Thanks for the reminder. No dating.

P.S. I am not the only one. One person does not have to fail for the other to succeed.

    1. Heaps of praise for working on your self and your goals as I would agree self worth is not dependent on someone else however why is there a tone that all men are abusive and treat woman as unequal to them?
Careful what you focus on as you tend to get more of it. One day someone will surprise you when you least expect it.

  4. Men are not born discriminators, abusers, haters, etc. They learn to do this. You don't go to heaven doing this.

Baby boys and girls are connected to Spirit. They are not born thinking they are better than others and need to put others down to control them.

    Take your life back.
