Are You the Slumdog or Millionaire?

Posted By: Randy GageMarch 4, 2010

I asked you in yesterday’s post how many of your price decisions are made based on the actual value received?  Do you hold back on things because you feel you aren’t worth the extra money?  Does going for the luxurious choice bring up feelings of guilt?

I used to say these kinds of things were issues for people who grew up in the great depression.  Then I came to realize that this was a problem for most people.  It’s no surprise really, when you think about it.

Even if you were raised by prosperity conscious parents (which would be VERY unlikely), the programming you get subconsciously from the data-sphere would do the trick.

If you are my age, you grew up with “The Beverly Hillbillies.”  Think about that show for a minute.  How stuffy the banker, Mrs. Hathaway, and the other rich people were.  Jed Clampet and his family were the constant foils, showing how silly those wealthy people were.

Then there was Gilligan’s Island.  Remember how goofy the millionaire was?  And how stilted, going by the name of something like Thurston Howell "the third."    Then there was M.A.S.H.  We had good guys Hawkeye and Trapper John, who were always ridiculing the rich guy who liked Opera.  When I look back on it now, I realize that my lack programming of jealousy and hate for rich people was probably established before I was ten years old.

Nothing much has changed today.  The Spiderman movies, Titanic, “House”, John Grisham novels and most mass culture entertainment is filled with lack programming.   (BTW, the next video for my prosperity channel is on why Avatar programs you to be poor.  Be sure and subscribe here, so you don’t miss it!)

So if you grow up with programming like this, is it any wonder that you feel guilty about buying something special for yourself?

Now a few of you fell for the bait and talked about what good you could do if you donated that $10,000 to charity instead of buying the coat or shoes.  But that is lack thinking, because of course you can do both.

Several of you commented on buying luxury if it was prudent and not going into debt.  That is very important and we discussed this on a previous blog here.

But when it is all said and done, it still comes down to value, worthiness and how big of a window you see the world through.

Yes the difference between a first class seat and one in economy is a great deal.  But you might find it is worth it if you are more than 5’6” tall, weigh more than 120 pounds, or want to open a lap top computer.  If you want to work (or sleep) on the trip, if you want to be treated with respect and not like cattle, and if you want to arrive relaxed – it could be worth the extra money.

The value difference between a room at the Four Seasons and a Holiday Inn one, or a Toyota versus a Bentley are undeniable.

If you have the money and aren’t going into debt, if it brings you joy, if you know you are worth it, then I believe you are making a prosperous decision.  And know that this is not about being elitist, because everyone has the chance to manifest more prosperity.

The great news is you get to choose:  you can be the slumdog or the millionaire!

  1. I have recently about a year ago returned to the country I was bonr in (Serbia), and I am realising how much growing up here has programmed me for scarcity conciousness... The basic idea here seems to be rich === Criminal, which is incredibly destructive.

I am looking forward to your analysis of Avatar, although I do think that it is a movie that can be interpreted in many ways... If you look for anti-prosperity programming, you will find it... If you look for prosperity programming, you will find that as well. But we can talk about that once you release the video.

  2. I grew up with Irish poverty conciousness and despite all this knowledge/books/experience find it still trips me up.

I too am interested to hear/see your take on Avatar. I chose to focus on the positive aspects of it, I found it quite spiritual (attuning to the voices of your ancestors, sacred places, revering nature all spoke to my heart) and I found it visually beautiful. It also highlighted for me the arrogance of the West (particularly the USA) in the way it steams into other people's lands and thinks it can possess it whenever it wants.

    Thanks for your great posts.

  3. Randy, I have decided to be a millionaire and I love getting up each and every day. Yes I do volunteer and give to my church. However, I focus more of my time on gaining back what I have lost due to the mentality of a bad economy. I now look at how best to grow my two businesses so that I can fly my family in first class to the Caribbean and stay at a high-end resort not because I can but because that is how I want to enjoy my family. I love life again because building businesses and earning a huge payday is what makes me come ALIVE. From there I will give back as I decide to do so and I will give back in a huge way because I can.

  4. Reading your comments about rich people in fiction and TV programmes made me realise that I have no problem with luxury and treatibng myself well because I read, and write, romance novels. The heroes are always heroic, firm but kind, and not always, but usually RICH. Millionaires, billionaires, royalty etc. If anyone wants to change their mindset about being worthy and wealthy, maybe they should read more romance. Yes, men do read them, and write them. Don't knock it till you've tried it. 🙂

  5. I'm definitely of the millionaire consciousness...I absolutely enjoy the finer things in life (even silly things like 800 thread count sheets make me happier).

I believe I'm wired to think more strategically, think bigger and to challenge myself to break out of my old conditions (my family was definitely poverty conscious) and create a life that I enjoy living in.

Great post Randy...thanks for the provocative thoughts.

  6. Randy, people bit that bait u put out because they are still looking to JUSTIFY their inner feelings of "want" for more. On my team we talk about "what are you COMMITTED to?" and most people never ever commit to anything. In order to live the life you are discussing, one must be COMMITTED to putting self first. I AGREE! If I am not satisfied with how I AM LIVING, than how can I help someone else? Including my family, including my friends ... including the world? Prosperity in general and residual income (money) in particular gives us TIME to think ... and THAT is what is most important to exploring our prosperity consciousness. I am with you Randy ... I am with you.

  7. Randy, when you start listing the TV programs you grew up with that struck a chord, being that I grew up in the same era. One of the things I find alarming today is the assault on wealth and achievement that we see coming from the current White House administration. I believe we are hit from many angles on the lack programming that's out there and we have to be more dilligent than ever to keep a prosperity focus.

  8. Keep digging into hidden lack programming, and if you dig deeper into "conspiracy stuff" you might find an even bigger picture.

For example, carbon is the basis of all life, and it takes 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons to comprise one carbon molecule. Voila! The "mark of the beast"! Again, hiding in plain site. You are designed by your "creators" to be programmed right from your inception. In the eyes of your programmers, you were created by them, for them, to do their bidding.

Falling into programming is an easy way out. Deciding not to be the minion of others is also an easy decision. Implementation is another story.

However, I don't think you have to be either a slumdog or millionaire.

The answer is always in the mind. The mind is the one tool that everyone has and the one least utilized. The mind is the most powerful resource in existence when it is in proper alignment with your Oversoul and God-Mind. No one wants you to know this.

And perhaps not all "rich" people can be admired in all aspects of life from your own core perspective.

  9. I agree that..."If you have the money and aren’t going into debt, if it brings you joy, if you know you are worth it, then I believe you are making a prosperous decision. "

  10. Thanks Randy, this is a great post.

So true that "...when it is all said and done, it still comes down to value, worthiness and how big of a window you see the world through."

  11. So we know there are lack programming for example.

The question is then: Why do they do this?

One reason is victims attract oppressors and vice versa, but the truth is also that ultimately even the oppressor falls under the victim and lack programmed category.

Thinking that you have to manipulate, steer and control is not prosperity either, even if you can get "rich" that way.

  12. Another great post!

I'm your age - and you are so right. The TV shows programmmed us.

Add the fact that I was raised by depression kids who taught me that spending was a bad thing and having too much money made you a selfish person.

My mother also added the thought that God had already given me more than my fair share so I had to share everything with others and never never get more than I already had. She had a reason for that - I was a very gifted only child of two older parents - and she didnt' want me to turn into a spoiled brat.

My childhood self turned her lesson into a belief that God had given me too much - and that if I had anymore he would be very angry and take it from me. So for years - I had just enough. If I started getting too much - I sabotaged myself to knock myself back to an acceptable level.

It's been a long path to change that subconscious belief system. I'm still focusing on changing my subconscious beliefs about money. But soon - Im going close to a complete allowing mode. I'm already starting to see the signs of that Vortex coming into my life around my book and my career transformation. I am SO excited!!

We can have it all, when we get out of our own way and create limitless abundance!

  13. Randy,

Great article. I am listening to your choices of music as I write this. Funny how hearing some of those songs, and reading about some of those shows takes you back to that time & place in your life.

From a very, very early age, I knew I would not cut it in mediocrity, city-limit mentality, or 95% thinking. I dreamed BIG even as a small child. I have never let poverty thinking infiltrate my thoughts. I don't know how. I was raised on a farm where we were completely self sufficient & probably poor. We did have indoor plumbing! Laugh, but I had two friends in school that didn't. My parents shopped at Sears, Greens, JC Penney, Montgomery Wards,Wellans (comparable to Nordstrom) while everyone else shopped at K-Mart. I wore the best, latest fashion, but could care less whose name was on the label. I still don't!!!

I was the baby & walked every step my daddy made. Maybe this instilled the belief that I could do anything I wanted! Sad to say that all this was purchased on "credit" Maybe that is why I don't own credit cards to this day!

    I love this sentence:
"If you have the money and aren’t going into debt, if it brings you joy, if you know you are worth it, then I believe you are making a prosperous decision"

This best describes me as a whole, and I believe this shows you are accepting this is true for many.

I loved the movie Slumdog Millionaire. I have never been, nor will I ever be the Slumdog. As long as I am capable, I will also help others rise to the belief that they don't have to be either.

    Again, I appreciate you,
    G

  14. could not stand slumdog millionaires evil rich vs. the noble poor. Check out the racism and lack consciousness in Princess and the frog.

  15. At the moment I am reading "Matter", on of Iain M. Banks Culture novels.
I think the whole culture setting that Mr. Banks has created si a very solid expression of Prosperity conciousness. It describes an entire universe where anybody can have anything they want, since manufacturing and technology has advanced to the point where most things have a cost that is so close to zero, that they do not have money, since there would be no point.
A better known prosperity conciousness setting is Star Trek. Science fiction is very often (though not always) very prosperity concious.

  16. Hey Randy, great stuff as usual. Success or poverty, are matters of choice. Simple.

Remember I gave you a shout out on twitter about how filled with lack programming Avatar was? I could basically see all the memes, designed to evoke emotion in watchers....and the main hero being in a wheelchair, and having doubt issues about himself...hmmm...memes, memes, memes!!

And as for John Grisham I had to stop reading one of his novels half way.

Why? The lack programming was dripping off each page.
The heroes of the story: two poor lawyers who eat macaroni and cheese, and have to sell all they have to fight the bad guys.
The bad guy is a billionaire. And hes been dumping chemical waste into the water table of the city, poisoning people, and people are dying of cancer.
When grisham describes a scene where a woman lost her kids and husband to the injustice...if you weren't on guard, you'd have experienced emotions of anger, rage, and all sorts against the villian...and of course you know how the subconscious works..

    I couldn't finish reading it.

Looking forward to your avatar video...lets see if we both saw the same thing 😉

  17. One commenter said that "lack" isn't what they got out of the movite Avatar. Kudos! I agree that there is sometimes (most likely, usually) a huge chasm between the message a "thing" is DESIGNED to give versus the message one TAKES from it.

What separates humans from "reactive" species is our ability to decide.

So my question to Randy is, "If indeed Avatar (and many other chunks of media) are DESIGNED to program lack into your consciousness...AND...the "lack" is what you see when you view this movie, then isn't your focus on the "lack" message EXACTLY how they wanted you to react?!?

What if instead, you saw this thing that was DESIGNED to get you focused on "lack and limitation" but instead what you TOOK from it was something beautiful and impressive...have they done their job of programming you in that case? I think not. Kudos to those who see the beauty....even in the things designed to be"ugly."

  18. Another thought...

While I was at lunch, watching the leaves of the trees shimmer in the sunlight as a breeze moved through them, I had an epiphany.

Suppose for a moment that YOU, the reader of Randy's Blog, did NOT have lack or limitation in your conscience. Would Randy (or anyone else) be able to sell you ANYTHING? Would you ever attend a seminar to "correct your thinking/mindset"? Would you even read this Blog about Prosperity? In other words, as soon as you realize that you no longer "lack" anything, it becomes next to impossible to sell you something (even an idea) that will "help". All marketers need you to believe that you're NOT okay just as you are. Of all people, don't you find it ironic that a "prosperity" marketer talks poorly about "lack"...the ONE thing they need you to believe in as the truth prior to being able to sell you something that will "correct the problem?" (Don’t think for a second all this talk about lack isn’t by design…it puts your focus on, yep, you guessed it…LACK!...a problem they conveniently have a pre-packaged answer to)

This begs the question, exactly who's definition of Prosperity do you CHOOSE to adhere to? What if (and this is a big "what if"), what if you made up your own definition of Prosperity?!! What if you used absolutely NO outside input (especially that of a sales or marketing person) to arrive at this definition and it was catered to precisely how YOU felt and thought? What if you defined prosperity in a way that your life was the epitome of prosperity RIGHT NOW, just like it is?

How could a movie, a book, a seminar, the news or a blog do anything to make you question your own inherent, natural prosperity?

    The answer...because you let it.

You want to be prosperous?…stop allowing others to plant the idea in your mind that you’re not already.
(regardless of whether or not “the planter” is identified as the good guy or the bad guy).

  19. Hey Randy,

    I AM a Millionaire!
I AM Worthy of the Abundance and Prosperity that God has for me.
    There is NO Lack!
With God ALL things are possible!

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
