Are You Accepting Less than the Best?

Posted By: Randy GageMay 11, 2010

So what areas of your life are you accepting mediocrity in right now?  And what’s your real potential?  Did you give that some serious thought?

I remember about ten years ago I was reaching extremely high levels of success in my business.  But I was doing it as an escape from a bad relationship.  The more I had to work and travel, the less time I had to be at home.

So I was making a lot of money. And a lot of misery.  A lot of workaholics are in a similar position.

Then there’s the other side...

People who use their personal life, kids, sick relative, etc to justify never accomplishing anything in their professional life.  “I would love to build a successful business, but I have three kids to raise, and being a mother is important.”  “I would love to work my business, but my father is sick and I need to take care of him.”

Of course we all have sick relatives and other situations from time to time that may necessitate taking time away from career and other matters.  But the key part there is “from time to time”.  If it is a long-time or permanent situation, then you may want to rethink if you are using it as a validation for mediocrity.

We all have issues.  Shit happens.  To everyone.  Everyone in the world will experience the death of a loved one, sick relatives, natural disasters, accidents and other challenges at some point or another.  But it’s how you choose to respond to it that determines how happy and successful you will become.

Thanks all for the healing energy.  I’m feeling great now and heading out to Bangkok.  I’ll check in on the other side.  Before I go, here’s the answer to yesterday’s Mental Aerobics:

If “diaphanous” and “sheer” do not have the same meaning, cross out all the 9’s in the line below.  If they do, cross out all the 6’s.  If “slough” and “cough” are pronounced the same, multiply the number of 4’s by 6.  If not, add up all of the non-crossed out numbers and multiply by 4.

9 4 6 4 9 4 6 9 4 6 9

Answer:  Diaphanous and sheer do have the same meaning.  However slough is pronounced as slew.  So the correct answer is 208.

  1. Two countries divided by a single language 🙂

Slew is a new one on me, Randy. In England we have a place name pronounced "slow" as in plough (plow), and the other alternative is "sluff" as in exfoliating ths skin. But what does slew mean?
We learn something new every day. That's what I love about our language.

  2. Very true Randy. I have used all of the above for excuses in accomplishing different goals over the years. The bottomline is that we have to kick the crutches out from under us and start moving forward. I believe the Universe is all about motion and we as human being should be in motion toward a life changing goal.

  3. Good energy is very powerful indeed. Glad to read you are feeling better Mr. Gage, but I'm wondering if you are accepting less than the best when it comes to your health. You've written previously about being very ill. Why do you think you manifest such ill health? Only you know of course.

  4. Hey Randy,

Thanks for this reminder. So many of us can get mixed up in the drama of our lives and not realize what we are doing and more importantly not doing. This is a great wake-up call for me.

Thanks for all that you do.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,

  5. I agree, however the question of being a mother I find important.
Children ask for a lot of attention, time and don`t want to know of your business. I`d find it great you would give a comment about that... thanks!

  6. Of course being a mother is important. Just as being a person is important too. And the best gift you can give your children is being a role model of success.

  7. Love this post RG! You are so right it's not what happens to us, it's how we respond to it. Amazing how some of the excuses people use for why they can't are the exact reasons others use as a reason why they can and do.... personal life, kids, sick relative, job, etc. I've used them all in the past. Its about making choices. When we become tired enough of settling for mediocrity (everyone's threshold is different) then giving up time wasting activities and disempowering behaviors and replacing them with ones that move us toward our goals becomes the obvious choice. Glad you are feeling better appreciate all the value you always share!

  8. Hi Randy,

I'm very very glad to hear you're feeling better now.

[But it’s how you choose to respond to it that determines how happy and successful you will become.]

I agree, although with some family and other issues things are complicated at times, and we're not perfect...but depending on how we respond to what happens, we seem to gradually grow into our fullness and potentials. It is a journey. .. Life seems to be an experience for us to get to know ourselves as we make a choice in every event. I remember someone's inspirational quote that goes, 'There're no failures..just experiences and your reactions to them...' That sounds really true. I continually pray for your health, Randy, and that your body is going to sustain you from a series of jet lags. Just think good thoughts like when you're finally back to Florida, you could enjoy lots of sunshine, football games, some positive like-minded good friends...and your lovely cars...are waiting for you there. 🙂 love and hugs:: -saachi

  9. Absolutely being a mother is important. In 2006 when we started in this industry we sat my down with our children & explained we had a new business that would take up some of our time.
The key is we focused on the "benefits" to them - the first being a trip to the US & Disneyland. They are now both big supporters of network marketing & the time it takes us.

  10. Of course shit happens, but to go through the rough times you have to learn to see the light somewhere ahead...

I use, among all nice things in my life, this inspiring work as a Very good excuse to get out of the shit when it appears, and it works fine for me. =)

Everything that happens in life has at least something good to focus on. Life isn't black or white, it's somewhere in the middle... =)

  11. We can all slip into mediocrity from time to time when life and relationships become routine and dullness starts to creep in. It also occurs when we put the needs of others before our own. A great reminder Randy, to put ourselves first, to never accept less than the best for ourselves, then and only then can we offer the best to others.

    PS glad the healing worked!
