25,000

Posted By: Randy GageMarch 19, 2012

On the treadmill this morning, there was a commercial for financial planning and they said something about the average person having 25,000 days.  Obviously based on average life expectancy, it got me thinking…

If we accept those estimates, that means you get the chance to experience 25,000 sunrises.  25,0000 sunsets.  25,0000 morning prayers.  25,000 chances to start over.

But there’s a couple big problems with all this…

Number one, no one is guaranteed the 25,000.  You could get more.  But you have no way of knowing that.  Some people get less.  A lot less.

And here’s the other issue:  How many have you already used up?

So forget the 25,000.  Start with today!

  1. Here here! Start with today, forget yesterday and don't worry too much about tomorrow. I don't focus on numbers anyway even thought they are interesting to look at.

  3. Absolutely! Loved that approach, Randy! I was one that used to be consumed over what the future might bring; I'd even say it was a bit of an obsession. It was such an obsession that I spent most of those days wishing for things to be different with the ones that weren't even there yet. There's no time to act when planning is all a person does. Here's another thing that helped me get a clue... I had to come to the realization that "later" will never come for me. Later when it arrives is "NOW!"

  7. Numbers can be tricky in our life!
But say, if the 25,000 is set for only 1 thing and one can choose for which thing in life  - I´d tolerate or even accept it ... probably  😉
but Yes, we don´t have to take all the offers we get!!

  9. Hi Randy
Great post! That is something I think about a lot and it fuels me to really pursue what I want in life. We could go at any moment and I do not hold that view in a morbid, negative type- way, but in a way that inspires me to do what I want and screw anybody who has a problem with it 😉 Every day is a fresh start and it is never too late to turn things around.

  11. Trust you, Randy, to find something interesting to think about while treadmilling...but I was surprised that you (watch? listen to?) advertizing media. What's that about?  Would you recommmend media/entertainment to other treadmillers?  It seems kinda' pitiful that the best & most thought-provoking item from your morning run was an advert.  Just sayin'...

    1.  @MrsHealthandProsperity Interesting question.  I do use the TV on the treadmill, because I hate doing treadmill.  But I have getting fat worse!  If I watch something interesting, I work out longer.  -RG

      1.  @Randy_Gage "Hate" Randy?  How do you feel about "hating" the treadmill-work? Maybe that could use a tweak-up?  There's enough hate in the world without our adding to the grand sum & total of it.  I'm all about the words we use.  For example, I used to say "I hope...." (eg, 'I hope Randy is ok with what I'm sayin' here.'')   Last year, I tweaked up my vocabulary, I started saying, "I trust...."  It just felt better, and saying "I trust...." about things helped me become a more God-trusting person.  This year, I've tweaked it up even more, so that as often as possible I say "I am confident...."
I LOVE feeling confident!  It all starts with the word...heck, all-&-everything began with the word.
Instead of "hating" the treadmill, perhaps you could  be "not fond" of it? Or some-such.
Wasn't it William James who said, "The World is not as it is, but as we are"?  I'd suggest that our world is as we SAY it is.  Words are Powerful, the beginning of everything!  That's what I'm "just sayin'" for today.

        1.  @MrsHealthandProsperity I hear you and understand where you're coming from.  As you know, I'm all about positive viewpoint.  And realistic.  I don't get runner's high, I don't enjoy doing cardio.  I pay the price to get the end results I desire - which I might add, I broke under 204 pounds today for the first time in at least a year!  But it is a good suggestion to re-frame hate.  -RG

    2.  @MrsHealthandProsperity I enjoy a thought - provoking moment regardless of what inspired it.... Just sayin'...

      1. me too, Rachel.  But I still edit what I expose myself to ~  that means very little advertizing media.  There's lots of thought-provoking material to be had elsewhere, without all the pollution. Likewise, I enjoy breathing, even when I'm downtown in traffic, but insofar as possible, I go for the clean air in amongst the trees.  I don't deliberately seek out polluted air, nor polluted thought-provocation.  Dat's m'opinion, and I'm sticking with it.

  13. Randy, thanks!  Good food for thought!
The best thing - initially stop wasting precious time for money.
And then do everything that every sunrise and sunset were the most beautiful and full.
How to stop exchanging money at the time?

  21. How powerful is THAT realization huh? Our days ARE limited, and we need to remember to make full use of every single moment, go all out and never settle for less than what we really want. I'm gonna work at doubling my count on this place though. 🙂 xoxo
