Eliminating Unhealthy Fears Forever

Dear Scholar,

The written lesson for the Alchemy and Mastermind Council members last month was on the subject of mind manipulation. I discussed the deceptive techniques some motivational speakers use to program their audience, and the brainwashing strategies that political leaders and governments practice on the population.

There are quite a few influence techniques, and some of them are quite powerful. As I told the Alchemists, after attending a few sessions with master manipulators, I began a more in-depth study of the techniques they use.

As an example, one speaker was doing what he calls “anchoring a state.” He would ask a question, then he would have everyone standing, screaming “yes” at the top of his or her lungs. It’s a great technique, because your metabolism is very high, your emotions are strong, and it carries a powerful charge that can have a residual effect in your subconscious mind.

So he began a series of questions. I don’t remember them exactly, but something like:

“Are you fired up?” “YES!”
“Are you going to take actions?” “YES!”
“Are you going to work every day toward your goals?” “YES!”
“Are you going to buy my products?” “YEss....What?”

Now he was holding up one of his tape albums while he was doing all this. Then on the last question, he was pointing directly to it. While most of the crowd started responding ‘yes’ out of reflex, he smiled and said he was joking. But of course the effect on many people was already in place. They had anchored their elation and emotional charge with his tape album.

When they walked out of the seminar and saw the album on the back table, they were much more likely to buy it. They would equate the album with the warm and powerful emotions that they had experienced earlier, and want to maintain.

Speakers are certainly not the only ones practicing these kinds of techniques on you. Real estate agent, insurance salespeople, and many other marketers use them on you every day. You may be reading this lesson on a computer you bought, or in clothes you’re wearing, because someone used some of these influence and programming techniques on you.

The point of the written lesson was to show you how to notice and counteract these techniques when they are used on you. But there is another side...

These techniques and some new related developments with them can be quite helpful in enabling you to overcome unhealthy fears and limiting beliefs. I told you yesterday that Mastermind Council member Peter Pearson PH. D. has been conducting research in this arena.

He is working with energy psychology techniques and using “power words” to anchor positive states and access unseen powers you possess. When you have a positive thing happen and you anchor that state with a trigger word or other device, you can then use that trigger to access that same state again. (I use this kind of thing when I play softball. Just before I go to bat, I hit my trigger, to ensure I am at a peak state to hit.)

Peter has done quite a bit of work using these "power word" triggers to anchor positive states, and override negative ones. The potential for making mental changes, which means immediate behavior changes is extraordinary. Fears you may have such as being afraid to make prospecting calls, speak in public or other things can be eliminated in a matter of minutes. Just as importantly, you can neutralize the emotional reactions to painful events that happened earlier in your life. The beauty of neutralizing these reactions is that it allows you to create and sustain more success choices in your life today.

Mental Aerobics...

Well last week was a good one, stumping a lot of you, and keeping many others working long and hard. Let’s see if I can duplicate that this week. Let’s use your skills of logic and deduction. Here’s your challenge:

You sign up for a marathon, and begin a training program. You decide to start your morning run at an average speed of 6 miles an hour. Unfortunately, you discover that you are not in as good shape as you thought, and you are running uphill. You find that you complete a half of the run, all uphill, at an average speed of only three miles per hour. How fast must you run to make the return trip—all downhill—at an average speed for the entire round trip of 6 miles per hour?
