More on the Discipline of Discipline

By Randy Gage

That’s the problem with discipline.  It takes discipline.   And the father you go on the path toward enlightenment, the more discipline you need.  But here’s the really good news about it…

As you develop, you need more discipline.  But actually practicing that discipline gets easier along the way.  Here’s why:

Discipline creates success.  Each small victory builds your belief in discipline and creates a positive energy around it.  Every time you practice discipline, you build character.  And stronger character makes discipline easier.  It’s a self-replicating success cycle.

I was encouraged with the comments on yesterday’s post and the commitments some of you made.  So all you have to do is make a small start.  As Jim Rohn likes to say, ”Fall on the floor!  Do one pushup.  Then the next day, do two.”

All you have to do is get started.  And build from there.  So where do you need some self discipline in your life right now?

P.S. I head up to Atlanta tonight for a softball tournament this weekend.  Send me some positive vibes to crush it!

The biggest thing that made me love discipline was the understanding that discipline comes from the word disciple – meaning you following a particular faith, philosophy, values, principles etc. or someone that incorporates this in oneself – I’ve got this AHA by reading 7 habits of highly effective people – Stephen Covey. And from then, when i sow that i wasn’t congruent with my beliefs i said ok! from now on i am.
It starts with your philosophy as Jim Rohn says!

All the best!

-RG,

One of my discipline problems is time management, task completion.

I have a partner that is helping me with that and I’m improving each day.

I find that passion and enthusiasm are my guide when it comes to discpline. When I notice I’m not being true to my intention, I need to revisit my faith in Who I Am as well as focus, and develop the clarity necessary.

I’m human just like the rest of us and like you say, over time and with consistency, the discipline falls into place as I experience the Joy and positive results that staying on the Path will prove out.

Thanks Randy!

Fast Pitch or slow pitch? Still love the fast pitch game and catching at 51….now that takes discipline!!! Got to apply it to my everyday life too!

We play the high arc. Can’t really find many fast pitch leagues here. But I love that game. And catcher is the position to play for fast pitch!

Actually,

Human being have the tendency to look at discipline, commitment as something that’s hard, that takes alot of effort, energy and struggle. How can you be commited all the time??? Well here’s an easier way. Redefine discipline. its simply being true to you. Being true to yourself. Whatever it is you have to do at that moment, you’re simply doing it as it is who you are or want to be. So there is no choice and no struggle. You don’t have a problem being committed. You’re committed to SOMETHHING…just choose what you want to be committed to.

peace out

I love some baseball – softball – slow or fast doesn’t matter!
Go get’em – I hope you have a blast !

Discipline – is something you apply to daily in all we do.

I am working on not eating that cupcake sitting on the counter today – so far it is working but it is only 1 PM – (wink)

Give the cupcake to your neighbor, or someone else, or just throw it away!

Just say I choose to do this or that. And if you say it to someone it becomes a promise. If you choose integrity as a way of life then you must keep your promise and discipline becomes so easy.

Discipline often has a negative meaning with us because when we were disobedient as children we were “disciplined”. Instead of seeing it that way if we could change our perspective to “guided to a successful happy life”. 28 years ago I was given 6 weeks to live with a black melanoma. I went on a special “natural program” to get well and people commented on how “disciplined” I was. I didn’t see it as discipline…. I saw it as a decision to live. When we make a decision about something that is very important to us, we don’t see the journey as “work” we see it as progress towards our destination which will give us great joy. Paul the Apostle said I press towards the mark of the prize…. Small sacrifice for a big reward

My discipline I am working on right now is daily exercise. I finally just decided I was tire of being in constant pain and needed to do something about it. So far I’ve lost 12 lbs. and am actually feeling better!

Thanks Randy

P.S. I hope you crushed it in Atlanta!!
