Now, does the name of the country have to be made up of letters in a specific order in the sentence or can you you just take all the letters and rearrange them the way you want to? The second method sounds a lot more efficient not to mention easier.

Well - you didn't say HOW we have to do it!

It would be an interesting experiment to ask all these good blog reader/contributors what mental acrobatics they follow to accomplish their goals.

I looked for odd word patterns or usage and then started with the odd letters and read forward 5 letters from there.

As Sailor said to Lula in Wild at Heart, "The way your mind works is god's own private mystery."

OMG these kinds of puzzles really puzzle me...I looked long and hard but my meme was "I'm no good at these" and so no matter how hard I look I cannot let my brain wander and get creative about seeing the individual letters differently.
Of course, once I saw the answers I saw them but so what!
My mother is so clever at cryptic crosswords which again are obvious when she has written the answer, but my literal brain struggles.
Thank you Randy for the challenge, both for the puzzles and the old memes that drive me when I'm not looking.

I think this task is one of the easiest.
Actually it's no really fare to praise the one who post the answer for this task first.
in this case who read the blog first - post the answer first.

1.sloop or tug alike = Portugal
2.hidden marker = Denmark
3.buzz, air entered = Zaire

+1 bonus city=OTAWA = (o)pened (t)he window, (a)nd, (w)ith (a) loud buzz

"P or tug al" starting from the 'p' at the end of sloop in the sentence = "a sloop or tug alike will do."

"den mark" from the den in "hidden" in the sentence = "hidden marker"

"z, air e" starting from the last 'z' in "buzz" in the sentence = "buzz, air entered "

uh...Alabama? heh.
I read Randy's posts in Bloglines (until Friday, DAMMIT!!!) and I looked at this for 5 whole minutes and was stumped.
