Creating your Reality with the Power of Thought

By Randy Gage

Ok so we’ve been discussing how we co-create our reality by the power of thought.  Now there are a couple important elements to this:

One of the kinds of questions that come up are, “So you mean I was responsible for manifesting the 9/11 attacks/tsunamis/earthquakes/tornadoes/etc?”   No I’m not saying you were.

Now I’m not saying weren’t either, however…

I do think some things that happen are a result of the collective consciousness created by large groups of people.  And then I think we are affected by these things in greater and lesser degrees by our own thoughts.

There is a real estate meltdown right now created by group consciousness.  Yet many individuals are creating wealth in it right now.  There is a global recession right now created by group consciousness.  Yet many individuals are choosing not to participate in it.

Now the other issue that needs to be addressed is the silly perception created by the movie “The Secret” and it’s simplistic portrayal of the law of attraction.

I’m grateful the movie has introduced people to the power of thought.  But it borders on pabulum because of the perception it has created with people thinking they need only to sit home on their sofa visualizing the Lamborghini to pull into their driveway.

So I hope you approach this issue with two important elements in your own life.

First, don’t use the fate/destiny/coincidence rationale to validate or make excuses for your bad results.  This is the road to staying a victim.  I think we all are a lot more responsible for the bad things that happen to us than we want to admit.

And secondly of course, be proactive and be willing to work for the good results you want, putting action to go along with your positive thoughts.

Fully agree Randy that the believing it and seeing is only the first step to actually taking the action of making it happen. Can’t tell you how upset it makes me to hear people bad mouth the power of thought because of their own lack of effort to take the action. Love the conversation you have going here.

Cool to see Brendan as always! So true that action is required. My problem is info overload. But I have no problem with my personal life NOW. I have decided I will live the best life I can now and my needs will be taken care of.

Yes, take responsibility for your thoughts people. Work on those mind-patterns.

Wake up and get into conscious mode. Always reinforce what you really want. Stop self-sabotaging and thinking you’re not worthy and have to suffer just a bit more.

IF IT FEELS AWKWARD TO BEGIN WITH, THAT IS EXACTLY WHY YOU’RE HAVING THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE! HELLO! GET OVER IT!

Guess why you’re here. Exactly. To learn something. You can’t escape from yourself, so you better get going with it,

RIGHT NOW!

Randy,

The Secret is a taste of the entire banana split. Unless you have the entire, three scoops etc. you are left with ‘magical thinking’ and a belief butterflies in South America can cause hurricanes and tornados in North America.

The only class I really enjoyed in college was one that allowed me to do a research paper on responsibility. I have to find it and update it. Responsibility is an ontological act. It is an action that alters who we be, who we are. You are operating with some kind of responsibility, always. An interesting approach is “the way to get what you want is want what you got.” This is being responsible for what you already have. There is something magical about it too.

Most of us have had moments of absolute perfection and wonder in our lives. We are always happy to be responsible for these moments too and they seem to disappear rather quickly. On the other hand the stuff we cannot stand lasts and hangs around forever. The way to get what you want is want what you got.

When you really want what you have, it disappears. When you don’t want it, this kind of resistance keeps it stuck to you. What you resist persists. In order to disappear anything you must really appreciate and be grateful for it being in your life. It will disappear and something else will show up. If you like keeping the ‘negative’ around, keep resisting it, keep not being responsible for your asking for it and while this is not true in the sense you didn’t ask for the tree to fall on your car, by being willing to be the cause in the matter you take control of the situation instead of it controlling you.

Context is everything.

-RG,

Yes, we must all take personal responsibility for a collective consciousness.

Love it! So true. I used to think my lamborghini was going to just come to me. I felt that I deserved it in some way….

I have long since had a reality check on that.

True. Without action and effort, you can visualize in your mind all day long and never achieve your wants. You must need, more than you want, for the thoughts you wish to manifest. To create something, you must build something. Something does not come from nothing and just appear.

Thank you Randy! Awesome… ;)

As it says in the bible, “Faith without works, is dead.” I honestly, don’t agree with those who get caught up in earthquakes, floods, or catastrophes that the power of thought had anything to do with those unfortunate circumstances – that is just non-sense.

great thinking .. we are all under influence by the mass-hypnosis, we are all hyonotized by the goverment, churches and the collective fear-thinking and we are downloading old ways off thinking and doing things, it is time to break out individually and collectively ..

thanks, greetings from Denmark

Hey Randy:

Talking about the “Prosperity Messiah”, Here is a hedge fund manager who is going to make $2.5 billions, that’s right, billions in profits for himself in one year.
So my friend,everything is relative.
Enjoy!

It’s all about a call to action. Even the attraction takes action.

Comment by Jonathan on 2009-12-22 11:45:56

Randy,

I’m quite sure that you, as a Prosperity Guru, have red Walter Wattles book, “The Science of Getting Rich”. As you also may know, it was the essence of this book that gave birth to “The Secret”.

Wattles understood that the Universe is a thinking substance and that ALL things in life are manifested through creative thought. He also says that in order to create the things you think about, you must also take efficient action and maintain gratitude. Without action and gratitude the Universe cannot create what you have in your mind.

So yes, action is required, but without creating what it is what you want in your mind and maintaining the feeling that you already have it, that it will continue to flow into your life and that abundance is infinite, you remain static.

My two cents.

Thanks, Randy, for having the courage to use the word “silly” in reference to some of the ideas in The Secret. Yes, the law of attraction can be very powerful indeed, but just as you say, it can go too far — and expecting that “positive thinking” alone is going to bring marvelous things your way is plain silly.

It’s that action piece you talk about which ultimately yields the results, in cobination with powerful thinking. Without the powerful thinking our actions can miss the mark.

All in all, well-said, Randy!

I know I am responsible for both the good and the bad things that happen to me. Positive or negative thoughts influence actions. If you have negative thoughts, you need to recognize them & refocus on positive thoughts before you take action.

“The ability to convert ideas to things is the secret to outward success.” – Henry Ward Beecher

Proactive work to achieve good results can be analyzing mistakes to learn from them or reprogramming so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes. If you don’t learn you probably will keep repeating the same actions that caused failures.
Just don’t get stuck in analyzing mode so that you never take action. “There is no scientific answer for success. You can’t define it. You’ve simply got to live it and do it.” -Anita Roddick

Achieving & succeeding in my career is something I have been able to do. I am confident & I know that I can re-create success in my career. I may not be growing though.

If you keep doing what you are doing, you keep getting what you are getting. To grow you need to decide to change.
“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” ~Unknown

To create you need to get out of your comfort zone. This could be making telephone calls or talking to people if you are uncomfortable doing those things. You may fail many times before succeeding. Just don’t quit. “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.”- Erich Fromm

Don’t wait for success to appear, take action to go along with your positive thoughts.

My only quibble about the Secret and people that follow the Secret is that it tends to be a bit “airy fairy”…. if you know what I mean.

Comment by James on 2009-12-22 23:40:22

Actually, taking action to obtain what you are visualizing is mentioned in The Secret. Thoughts, feeling/emotions and definite action are required to manifest what you intend on attracting into your life.

Comment by Maria Varga on 2009-12-23 02:20:57

Proactivity is absolutely necessary, although I would make a note that inspired action goes a much longer way than keeping busy for the sake of making the impression that we are doing everything under the sun to create our dreams.

A person who has educated himself on the power of thought and uses it, can be much more effective in his efforts than one who does not. And that is because we are able to attract all necessary components, people, places and events which lead to inspired action, which lead to the results we seek.

‘Thoughtless’ :o) action will sadly serve you with much disappointment and frustration and the results will not come even close to those of inspired action.

Nonetheless, ACTIVITY is definitely a key part of creation.

Thank you and best wishes,
Maria

A key step prior to believe in anything is belief in one’s self. Your hard work and ability to manifest your dreams are founded in your own efforts. In terms of the law of attraction, I’ve had moments where I’ve been beaming with confidence and strangers have approached me in conversation (a marketer’s dream). I’ve also sat in the same coffee shop in one of my introverted stupors (usually when I’m writing) and have had no one come near me. Our posture dictates how open we are to opportunity — our mindset dictates our posture AND our work in the moment. Off to visualize a winning lotto ticket…

Great comments.

Although, my learning has been from the other side, which is all the action in the world isn’t going to get great results unless deep belief of success at the center.

Seems to always come back to that one word: Balance.

Have a wonderful holiday Randy!

“The Secret” also missed the way the brain works. If you visualize a RESULT (the Lamborghini) without visualizing THE PROCESS, your mind can’t accept the result.

Top performing athletes use visualization all the time. But they NEVER visualize the end result (winning the race, winning the game, beating their opponents). Instead, what they visualize is the PROCESS: the specific MOVEMENTS they will make during the race, executing the perfect layup time and time again during a basketball game, the movements and counter movements they will make against opponents in a game of tennis or a wrestling match).

If you give the mind an end result without directing it how to get there, the mind will NOT produce the end result. So, if you want the Lamborghini, then you have to visualize what if feels like to be in a sales call where you land a million dollar client, or how it feels when you write the perfect pitch letter and send it out to prospects, or the specific tactics and counter tactics you use successfully in a contract negotiation.

(Sigh.) I really wish these new-age theories like The Secret would study how the brain works. It would be so much more helpful in teaching people how to SUCCESSFULLY use visualization to their advantage. As visualization is presented in The Secret, it’s completely counter to how the brain processes information and manifests results.

I stopped using the phrase of wishing someone “Good Luck” a long time ago because to me it seemed to be asscoaited with random happenstance – something completely out of our control.

Instead I now use the phrase “Good Fortune” because to me it invloves the power of personal action. You have good fortune because you are acting and thinking in accordance with manifesting positivity into your life.

Fortune favors the Brave – and to be brave you must take action. Therefore fortune comes when positive ACTION is taken.

Without leaving a blatent URL link, I wrote a post that readers of this post might be interested in called “Never Wish an Irishman Good Luck” and you can look it up from my blog which is linked to my avatar.

Thanks for all the posotive reinforcement of a belief that requires action!
