I like the fact that you pointed out how serving others brings YOU joy – which is the reason YOU should engage in the act. Serving others shouldn’t be done out of guilt, or for ‘look what I did’ approval.

You need to give yourself unconditional love and put yourself first. Sometimes others view this as selfish but if you don’t put yourself first you lose yourself. You lose your purpose and your happiness.

Serving others does bring joy when you love yourself. “Love your neighbors as yourself.”

Yes! The Word says, “Love your neighbors as yourself.” You can’t do that without first loving yourself. If you don’t love yourself, how can you love your neighbors as yourself? :)

I won’t give out coins to the street kids, but I will feed them. Sometimes I really enjoy taking my lunch at a corner Food Haus eating with barefoot dirty street kids (also call Rats).

To those that understand me I chat about reading, work and going to Mass (its important these buggers are around positive people).

I agree…but with caveats:

Gandhi once said ‘If you want to find yourself, lose yourself in service to others’. I guess this could turn into codependency if approach with the wrong state of mind; there is a big difference between ‘needing’ to service (to feel fulfilled) and offering service selflessly.

It always comes down to intention…

Happy Thanksgiving! and thank you for giving us more to be THANKFUL for. Never were your words more true on so many levels.In relationship counseling we’re told, ” Two sick people does not a whole person make”. If we are not happy, whole, at peace and full of love ourselfs, how can we give to another that which we know nothing about. The only thing we can share is our loneliness, bitterness and anger. We will attract the same and two people with cups full of poison will bear children doomed to repeat the same cycle. Ground hog Day. (I experienced this with my parents.) When we love, forgive, nurture, teach the child in us, created in God’s image and intended for great things, we will bless others with the overflow of our cup and truly be of “service” to others. To be a “servant” is to be lower than, unworthy. “Servanthood” in the Godly sense is to make available to others the gifts, talents and compassion that lives in our hearts.
Again, thankyou, I love you, for helping me to learn, share and grow in the incredible future before me.

What you posted is true and in line with the ancient scripture: Love the Lord with all your heart, your soul, and mind, and your neighbor AS yourself. If you don’t love/care for yourself, how can you love another? Makes sends to me!
