White Christmas!

So it's 9:30 on Christmas morning and it's snowing, Hard.

I'm sitting in the Minneapolis airport and the scene is actually quite surreal. Now I'm not so sure I'd feel so spiritual about the whole thing if it was necessary to actually go outside. But watching the flakes shower down on the tarmac right now is simply stunning.

Of course I escaped the Midwest winters 35 years ago, vowing never to return. But I missed a trip up here during the summer, so I agreed to run in on Christmas eve, see the kids open their presents, give everyone a hug, then flew out of Madison at 7 am this morning.

It was supposed to be freezing rain in Madtown, but the temperature stayed above 35 all night. So it was a quick, beautiful takeoff this morning for the short hop here.

Now I'm awaiting the flight back to warm, sunny Miami, but have to admit there really is something special to seeing a white Christmas again. And it was wonderful seeing the family, gathered around the tree last night, sharing stories, presents and love.

I must be getting old. But I'm ok with that.

Because I never met my father, my family was divided by two from the beginning. And after losing my grandparents and brother-in-law the last few years, there aren't that many family members left. So I guess it's no surprise to be mellowing out and appreciating the simple pleasures.

Wherever you are, I hope you're enjoying the season and having some time to celebrate with the people you love. And if you're not, please accept this note as a psychic hug and a chance to let you know someone is thinking of you.

Thousands of you stopped by the blog last night and today, and many of you have checked in with your submissions for the "Night Before Christmas" poem. As usual, there are some very clever submissions. If you haven't checked it out, find it at: http://su.pr/1XtLtH

2009 has been an amazing year and 2010 offers the promise of something very special. Opportunities abound in the new economy, and there has never been a greater time to be alive. This week is a great chance to reflect, strategize and make plans for the New Year. Make the most of it!
