The Cranky Bulldog

There's a fat bulldog scowling at me right now, and he looks pissed
off...

I'm at a sidewalk café on Lincoln Road in South Beach, trying to
enjoy my lunch. The bulldog is leashed up at the table next to me.
And every time I take a bite, he glowers at me, following the
trajectory from plate to mouth, as if to say, "Why are you eating
food that you could be throwing my way?"

It kind of reminds me of the general attitude of the herd right
now. They look at all the government bailouts getting spread
around, wondering why they're not coming to them. It's the
ultimate victim-hood mentality.

"Well GM, Ford and Chrysler are getting bailouts, that must be why
I am upside down on my car loan."

"The mortgage industry made billions of dollars of bad loans, that
must be why I can't pay the balloon payment and new interest rate
on my adjustable rate mortgage."

"The dot com bubble burst, so that must be why my retirement fund
is decreasing by the day."

Ahh, no.

Everyone is frothing and salivating at these government bailouts,
and using them to escape personal responsibility and validate the
bad decisions they've made.

Truth is, my own 401k has been decreasing every quarter for a few
years. That has nothing to do with the economy, however. It's
because I was foolish enough to entrust part of my finances to
someone that subscribes to herd mentality. I let my company VP set
it up years ago, because I didn't want to be bothered with details
and spending the mental energy to set it all up. So now I'm paying
the price for being stupid and lazy. End of story.

Now I have to follow the same advise I gave you, get off my ass,
take charge, take the loss, and set up something more prosperous.
In the other areas of my finances, where I've taken personal
responsibility, my wealth has been increasing abundantly.

And so can yours...

But you have to stop taking financial advice from broke people.
And start being proactive about developing wealth.

It appears that this recession is going to be the worst most of us
have ever experienced in our lifetimes. There are still trillions
of dollars of derivatives coming due in the months ahead. The
government bailout agencies now need bailouts themselves. Lincoln
Road has empty stores for the first time in a decade. The
restaurants, hotels and airplanes all have plenty of space, even
with slashed capacity.

Even the high-end stuff seems affected.

The high rollers at Art Basel were definitely rolling a little
lower this year. My friend who sells yachts is crying the blues.
Today the Ferrari salesman is offering the 599 GTB straight up at
the $300,000 suggested retail price, whereas six months ago he
would have demanded an extra 200K over sticker. (So you may be
reading about a new set of wheels for your favorite newsletter
editor soon! After all, I can't have Joe Vitale making me look
like a piker with that new Rolls Phantom of his.)

Truth is, the economy absolutely sucks wind right now. And that is
a wonderful opportunity for you. Now is the time to be buying
property, remodeling homes, investing in companies, shopping for
luxury, and starting a business. This is the time to be bold.

Now that doesn't mean going into debt to do this. It means
manifesting money and putting it to work for you in a way that can
grow your prosperity. Which is a topic we will be exploring more
in this newsletter and the blog in the days ahead.

Speaking of the blog, if you haven't been by lately, you are
missing some really juicy stuff. There's been some fascinating
discussion on Seth Godin's "Tribes" book, the leadership required
to lead a tribe or movement, how Obama took the easy way out, while
Ron Paul did it with principle, and even why tonight is the perfect
night to fire up the weed! Check it out at:

side to sign up for a notice whenever the blog is updated.

I'm busy working on my annual "Night Before Christmas" poem now.
Look for it in a Rant or on the blog; I haven't decided which.
After that, we can start the discussion on the perfect kind of
businesses to start now. In the meantime, make sure you study the
best website traffic generating tactics of the last year here:

I'm off to do some cardio, to work off some of those calories I
should have thrown to the bulldog! Have a great weekend.

P.S. If you're making a last trip to fight for a parking space at
the mall this weekend, be sure and pick up an extra toy for the
Toys for Tots program.
