I'm trapped in the luxurious Admiral's Club in Bogota, Colombia, because severe weather has closed MIA at the moment. So I'm feasting on their sumptuous assortment of stale potato chips, crackers with no cheese, and plantains fried in oil so old they taste like fish.
I skipped breakfast to get some extra sleep before I headed to the airport, and now I've discovered that there are no restaurants once you clear security here. And thanks to our war-mongering president, security on flights back to the US includes getting your carry on luggage hand searched twice, and a pat down. So rather than go through that again, I'm sitting here sulking, with my blood
sugar in the basement, getting cranky. Somehow I believe President Bush is responsible for the bad weather in Miami as well.
I haven't been to Bogotá for about 15 years, and it was great to be back. The weather is fresh and you can just leave all the windows open. The last time I was here, it was still in the heyday of Pablo Escobar and the cocaine cartels. Things have calmed down greatly and now Bogotá is moving forward into a wonderful city.
I stayed at the Hotel Casa Medina, which was built by Don Santiago Media in 1945. Which is a nice coincidence, since it appears the AA jet I flew down here was built the same year! It seems airlines today are putting their oldest, most decrepit planes on the short hauls between Miami and Latin America. And with all the service cuts, you're subjected to filthy cabins, burnt out lights, broken
equipment and backed up toilets. But I'm ranting again, aren't I?
Anyway, the hotel is a unique mélange of French and Spanish architecture with real stone columns and floors and carved wood doors. My room was very spacious with a gorgeous wood floor, plush shag rug, wood beam ceiling, and a fireplace. It also had tasteful furniture, plasma TV and even an iPod radio.
It's located in the new commercial and financial district, by the "G-Zone" which is packed with restaurants. The staff knows English, but it's better if you know a little Spanish. It's the only hotel I've been in where the maid comes by every morning to see if you have any laundry. Even though it's a classic building, the décor is definitely my style of minimalistic ambiance. Very chic. And it has my favorite feature in hotels - a collection of books in your room!
We had a packed house for the seminar, and the people there have a passion for success. It was a blast and I can't wait to go back.
While you're in Bogotá, be sure and eat at Club Colombiano on 82nd Street by 9th Avenue. Zesty red beans with rice, the best plantains around, and really friendly service. Order the Ajiaco soup and mix in some alcaparras, which are delicious!
I'm up in Toronto for an event this coming weekend, then a tournament in New York the next, and another around the world trip the following day. So I'll try and check in along the way.
By the way, last time I told you about a special event I am doing for network marketing professionals. It's the first generic training I've agreed to do in more than five years. Unfortunately the link didn't work right. So here it is again. Check it out: http://mega-mlm.com.
Looks like the airport is open and I'm on my way. Have a great week!
